In the Love of God

Her friends saw him smiling when he saw her. They also noticed, the glow in his eyes, when he laid his eyes on her. But when she turned around to face him, she was hit by the cold indifference that was emanating from him. She was welcomed by nothing apart from apathy. A part of her heart chipped away whenever they met. The indifference slowly killed her heart like a cancerous cell. Everytime she bumped into him, she picked up the broken pieces of her heart and self respect, with whatever dignity that was left of her. Head held high, eyes fierce with the mere effort of not shedding a drop of tear in front of him. His heart on the other hand glowed with happiness by the mere sight of her. Just a glance at her beautiful face made his stress ebb away. But he couldn't show it to her. Because often at times you need to let go of the thing you desire the most. It was better, to hurt her and push her away than to plung into the deep waves of her love, for both of them. Such is the pain to be in love, because love is complicated.
