Kammi was a regular person living in a normal world, with a mildly abnormal family, reading a cliche web novel, when she fell asleep---like normal people in normal worlds do. When she woke up to find herself in the body of a villainess from the web novel, Brynne Sumner, she took the news in stride and went about her life to make the necessary changes to protect herself and her new family. When a slip of the tongue leads her to be accidentally engaged to a side character that was only briefly mentioned in the novel, the new Brynne realizes he might be her best chance for survival. With his name and resources, she begins planning her revenge on the person who destroyed her family in the original story---the crown prince, and the first love of the original villainess. As she braves the new world with her trusted servant and the crown prince’s not-so-loyal dog, she shares her modern feminist views with her new husband---who listens to (most) everything she says with a confused look and a vaguely open mind---and scolds her family for sheltering her from the world, all while taking steps to bring the prince to ruin. As nightmares from the real Brynne’s tragic death plague her, the story drifts farther and farther away from the original ending, and Brynne finds herself lost in a political battle between her husband and the crown prince, even as her plans for revenge fall into place a little faster than she expected---thanks to the prince’s ego and the help of her new loyal dog. But with her hands holding a bloody crown, Brynne must answer the dangerous question of lineage, for the fate of the entire kingdom now depends on her.
