Everybody Lies
Updated at Jan 19, 2022, 16:05
Paul Kitka likes fast cars, women and his job as a lieutenant in the Alaska State Patrol. Candace Marshall doesn't know what she likes — being married to an abusive husband does that. She came to Alaska to kill herself: figured it was easy there, just pick a trail and keep going. Something will get you, the terrain, the wildlife, or the weather. But she discovered something she did like — Alaska. And after all, that trail would always be there. Then Candace finds her ex-husband dead on her cabin floor. She says didn't do it, and Paul Kitka believes her. But who did kill the most hated lobbyist in Alaska? Everyone is lying to him: Candace, the victim's family and co-workers, even Paul's own friends and neighbors. To make matters worse? The murderer isn't done.

Worried enough that he gives Mac Davis a call one morning at 2 a.m. to the house where a man just shot his wife and two children. Mac Davis, a local cop reporter and former Marine who might qualify as a gun hoarder himself, doesn't like 2 a.m. calls to crime scenes. He especially doesn't like it when he watches them haul out body bags that are obviously children. It isn't the first case. It won't be the last. Someone is building a network of white-collar weekend warriors. Someone wants a bunch of angry white men with large arsenals. He's called Sensei. And he wants Mac to join up. If not? WHEN YOU COME FOR THE WRONG MAN Howard Parker wants to be Secretary of Homeland Security. And he isn't going to let a bunch of Marines who were in the wrong place at the wrong time stand in his way — even if one of them is now a reporter in Seattle, his home town. What are the odds? Former Marine Mac Davis likes being a cop reporter. He gets a regular paycheck, and no one is shooting at him. What's not to like? So yeah, he has to hang out around cops, but every job has its downsides. Then someone tries to kill him. Roughs up his aunt. Kidnaps an old Marine buddy. And Mac is going to find out why. And then? He'll put a stop to it. One way or another. If the tools of a reporter won't get the job done? Well then, he's got other tools to use. Book 1 in the Mac Davis thrillers featuring a Marine turned cop reporter in Seattle.
