Esme7 years- it’s been 7 years since I last took a step into this pack. I didn’t ever plan on coming back here but I wasn’t given much of a choice. Come back here or condemn the entire pack to the siren curse. Not everyone in that pack was entirely cruel and certainly don’t deserve to suffer because of the actions of one alpha. Especially Ella- she was one of the few souls in that pack who actually stood up for me. Life was kind of like hell back then. Born as a freak without a wolf with some unknown father. We don’t want you appearing as a wall flower’ Zena my mother in law stated. She always tolerated me but I saw the hatred underneath her eyes whenever she had to speak to me. ‘So I will, Zena. Thank you for always keeping me in touch’ I faked a smile that was less than convincing. Her smile was tight but she nodded and wandered off into the sea of other guests. Honestly it was fine she wasn’t wrong. I had already had a wide range of networking going on apart from my husband for some time. However more investors always was better- I just had to keep my cards close to my chest. Laughter echoed from across the room and I couldn’t help but distinguish the annoying high pitched snort from Layla Levon. She held onto my husband’s arm like he was the only thing holding her down. What’s worse is the look of adoration he held on his face for her. It made both mine and my wolf’s skin crawl. She sneered at me and I turned to look straight ahead. Silently sipping my drink as I listened to the classical ballad playing in the background.‘Isn’t it a bit early for you to skulk off into a corner?’ Adam my longtime best friend and ally said as he rounded a corner. He smiled warmly and leaned against the wall next to me.‘Perhaps so but I’m not here for pleasure merely business.’ I stated cooly. I held open my palm and he casually slipped a note into my hand hidden from view of lurking eyes. ‘Everything is set up. Those are the coordinates. You can plan to ship out as soon as possible.’ He nodded towards my husband ‘You should probably take care of that before you head out. We really don’t need you having betrayal pains in the middle of a war zone’ Adam tried to play it casual but I saw his eyes flash when he mentioned betrayal pains. Adam was one of the few who knew about my secret. A childhood friend who accidentally stumbled upon me changing into my wolf form. Ever since then we sparred in private far away from society. The only time my wolf felt free as the necklace kept her mostly trapped. Everyone here thought I was weak and wolfless so they walked all over me. All except my business partners who knew i was more valuable on a war field than any alpha out there. ‘In due time, Adam. Hes merely a pawn in this game and I have to make preparations myself before heading out’ I smiled secretly as I slipped the note into the pocket of my ballgown. Unfortunately to my wolf he wasn’t a pawn- he was everything to her despite feeling betrayal pains ever since we met him. To me? He may as well have been dirt under my shoe. The biggest issue here is to deny our mating claim I had to let my wolf out. He just assumed I would never want to reject him but also couldn’t since I was ‘wolfless’. I stared at him from across the room I couldn’t help my eyes from straying to his. He may have had to ‘settle’ for this marriage but i wasn’t ready to go down without a fight. Game on.
