“Boss, Madam’s necklace… its worth is more than our country’s GDP,” Dany said, his voice trembling.
Austin froze. For a man who had never known fear—who had built empires, crushed rivals, and held the world in his grasp—those words shook him to his core. He leaned back in his chair, the glow of his laptop casting shadows across his sharp features.
“What did you say?” Austin’s voice was low, cold, as his piercing gaze locked onto Dany’s.
“Boss, we couldn’t find anything about Madam’s family or her origins,” Dany stammered, beads of sweat forming on his brow. “But this necklace… it’s priceless. It’s unlike anything we’ve ever seen. The craftsmanship, the materials… it’s beyond comprehension.”
Austin’s jaw tightened, his hand curling into a fist. For months, he had been trying to uncover the truth about his wife—the woman who had stolen his heart yet lived as though a shadow of fear followed her every step.
She had no surname, no history she would speak of, and carried an elegance that felt almost otherworldly. And now this—this necklace, so impossibly valuable, yet kept so casually around her neck.
“She’s scared of something,” Austin murmured, his voice almost to himself. He closed his laptop, his thoughts churning. What could terrify a woman so deeply when she knows I’d turn the world upside down to protect her?
“Dany,” Austin commanded, his voice like steel. “I don’t care what it takes or who you need to talk to. Find out where this necklace came from. Find out everything about her past.”
Dany hesitated, then nodded and left the room.
For the first time in his life, Austin felt a pang of vulnerability. His wife was his world, and now, he was terrified of the idea that he might lose her to something he couldn’t control.
