Echoes of Tomorrow

Mila, a criminology student and urban explorer, finds herself drawn to the infamous Eclipse Hotel in Southern Mindanao. Abandoned for decades, the hotel is steeped in dark legends, particularly about Room 217, a “vanishing room” that has reportedly consumed its victims, leaving them lost in an alternate dimension. Determined to uncover the truth, Mila ventures into the decaying building armed with her flashlight, camera, and recorder. The hotel exudes an eerie presence from the start, with its crumbling walls, rotting furniture, and an unshakable sense of being watched. As she navigates the shadowy hallways, she discovers Room 217, its door ajar as if beckoning her inside. To her surprise, the room appears untouched by time, with pristine furniture and a journal on the bedside table. The journal warns of unseen dangers, stating, “You are not alone.” The words unnerve Mila, but her curiosity keeps her rooted. As she investigates the room, the door slams shut, trapping her. Paranormal events begin to unfold: the mirror reflects ghostly shadows, the air grows frigid, and whispers echo in her ears. The room begins to twist and pulsate, and before she can react, the walls dissolve into a shimmering field of fog. Mila finds herself transported to a surreal world—a vast, foggy plain surrounded by skeletal trees under a starless sky. Here, she encounters strange, glowing figures in the distance and hears incomprehensible whispers. A man in a vintage suit emerges, claiming to be another victim of the room. He explains that the “vanishing room” is alive, feeding on the fear and essence of those it traps. He warns Mila that the only escape is through a glowing doorway, but it is guarded by a malevolent entity. The guardian, a towering, faceless shadow, radiates malice and blocks her path. As the guardian closes in, Mila confronts it, using her camera’s flash to momentarily disorient the creature. Seizing the opportunity, she sprints toward the glowing doorway and escapes. She finds herself back in the decayed hotel, but Room 217 is now boarded up and lifeless. Shaken but alive, Mila flees the building, her camera containing blurry evidence of the otherworldly realm and the guardian’s chilling form. In the aftermath, Mila shares her story, but few believe her. Weeks later, she receives a mysterious package containing the journal from Room 217 and a Polaroid of the guardian. On the back of the photo is a single word: “Soon.”
