In the beginning, Rebecca is forced to watch her mother marry a man that not only doesn't love her, but is obsessed with Rebecca, instead. Rebecca rebels when she finds she cannot make her mother leave this new guy, and winds up moving with her father for her last year of high school. She meets Victoria, who turns into her most trusted friend. Rebecca finds she needs to adjust quickly to this new, low maintenance lifestyle if she's going to survive this last year. During school, she butts heads with the cheerleading captain, soccer team captain, and the school's biggest badass, resulting in a hospital trip and severe head trauma, causing her to lose her memory.
Meeting Jenna, Kyle, and Claude becomes a strained pass time while she tries to uncover what their angle is, not realizing who or what they really are. Duke uses his special vampire powers to enter her mind, but she soon realizes she can kick him out of her head at any time, and makes him come for her in reality, which is just as dangerous.
After meeting some people that she is sure she knew before, but has never met before that day, she begins to wonder if she is someone from a past life, like Claude and Jenna keep telling her. Once she finds out they're vampires, it flips her world upside down - everything she knew was gone, and how is she supposed to figure out what's really happening to her? With vampires at her wrists and werewolves at her throat, she needs to figure out a way to save herself, and fast.
