Because of You tells the inspiring journey of Freddy, a young man who faces countless struggles growing up in a complex family and cultural environment. Raised by his mother Edah, who instills in him the values of hard work and resilience, Freddy's early life is shaped by memories with his loving sisters—Gent (the queen of the universe), Avi (the governor), Josephine (the president), and Becky (the senator).Freddy sets off for a new life in Kitale Town, accompanied by his brother Alvany, seeking education, purpose, and ultimately, love. Along the way, he remembers key figures like his loyal friends Caleb and Joseph, and reflects on traditional beliefs such as Kimila, and how second wives like his mother were often undervalued. As Freddy adjusts to town life, he explores new environments like museums and forests, meets new friends at school—Mariam, Solomon, Nahashon, Naomi, Samuel, Mercy—and recalls his time at Tulienge Secondary School. His emotional growth deepens when he finally meets Maido, the girl who transforms his life.Through heartfelt poems like “The Girl of My Dreams” and “The Street Kids,” Freddy expresses his longing, pain, and hope. As trials come and go, Freddy holds onto the belief that love, though slow, is real—and it’s because of Maido, and all who influenced his path, that he becomes a changed man.
