##Chapter 13 Distance Matters

However, I was being way too optimistic. Days went by, but he never called or came to Paradise Lost again. I was on the verge of thinking he had forgotten about what had happened between us. At the end of my shift, I stared at his number on my phone blankly. I had no idea whether I should make the first move and call him. Of course, I wanted to call him. But I was afraid he would get pissed. I couldn't help laughing at myself. I started to think like a little girl in love. Wayne did forget about me, but it was awesome Leopard somehow decided to leave me alone as well. In short, my life went back to normal. At least for the moment. "You're up, Jo Jo," someone was calling me. I then came back to my senses. Putting my phone away, I checked on my outfit and my makeup. I had no clue when I could stop living like this. I then marched down the catwalk, winked at the audience, and started my dance. I had been doing this for way too long, so I couldn't know better what these men were after. Tease and toss were just every day for me. As I was done with my drill, the audience started shouting encore as usual. I gave them a smile and proceeded to leave. However, someone leaped up in a flash and tried to kiss me. That smell of cheap liquor stank high heavens, and I had a hard time trying to flee without barfing. This lit the audience up. Everyone started yelling and whistling like chimps. "Sir!" A voice came around, and I could feel the man letting me go. As I looked up, I saw a huge figure in front of me. I then let out a sigh of relief and hurried off the catwalk. "Are you alright, Jo Jo?" Anna came to me hurriedly. I was still a little frozen from what had happened just now. This wasn't the first time for sure, but I still couldn't help feeling grossed out every single time. "I'm alright," I replied, "but who was it that saved me just now?" I was busy running away, so I had no clue who my savior was. "Well, you should be glad Jason came around today. Or you'd be having a hard time back there." "Jason?" That name caught me off-guard. Jason was the son of our boss. He was gentle and used to help me quite a bit. The man just now looked quite fierce, so I never imagined it was him. "Jo Jo." That voice sure was Jason. I turned around to find him running at me all sweaty. "Thanks, Jason. You saved me again back there," I said. He saved me so many times, but I was never on the ground to do anything for him. "I'll leave you guys to it," Anna smiled and left. As he saw Anna leave, he turned back to me and asked gently, "Are you alright?" I rubbed on my wrist and smiled wryly, "Of course. I'd say I'm already getting used to this." Jason answered with much hesitation, "Well... Have you considered getting a new job?" I smiled, "That's nice of you, but I wouldn't have been a pole dancer in the first place if I ever had a second choice, you know." Before Jason could say anything, a voice broke in, "That's quite of life right there." I jumped at that voice and looked up. Wayne was there, standing by the corner with that mysterious smile. Jason didn't come around here a lot, but sure enough, he had heard all about Wayne. He froze as he saw Wayne himself standing there. Wayne then came close, glanced at Jason, whispered in my ear, and left. "You... knew Mr. Wayne?" Jason asked me nervously. I somehow flinched at his question. I tried combing my hair back and replied, "I'll tell you about this later on. I'll head to 601. He's waiting for me there." "Jo Jo," Jason tried catching up, but I ran harder. I couldn't figure out how I could explain this to Jason. He was the one that kept saving me from trouble, but then I had to tell him I was seducing Wayne. What would he think of me if I had to tell him so? With all that stuck in my mind, I went into 601. There Wayne was, crossing his legs in the middle of a kingly sofa. I tried getting my smile back, "Mr. Wayne." Wayne rocked on his wine, "I remember your begging me to get you away from Leopard. I even had the idea that you were quite a different pole dancer. So it turns out I was wrong." "I beg your pardon?" his words vexed me. "Who was the man just now, then?" he glanced at me, "You were after me days ago, and now you're having a good time with another man. You sure have got all the guts in Garol to cheat on me." I was on the verge of breaking out. Not only did he insult me, but he had insulted Jason. Nonetheless, I had to calm down in front of a man like this, "This must have been some kind of mistake. We're just friends." He slammed his glass on the stand and warned me, "You already made everyone know you're mine, but you still get close to other men like this. It seems that you weren't fond of giving me an easier time." His words sent a shiver down my spine. "I apologize, Mr. Wayne. I'll watch out from now on that I shall not get too close to any other man," I whispered. He wasn't wrong. I tried getting close to him as his woman, then I had to abide by his rules. "I've got a gathering coming up tomorrow. I need you to come with me," Wayne switched the topic. "Huh?"
