Dawn of uncertainty
“Alpha! You must hurry!”
I hear my beta calling from the other side of the door. Taking a final look in the mirror I breathe deeply, today is my first meeting of the Alpha. My first debut as Alpha of the Blue Lake pack. I do not know what to expect since I am the second female alpha in centuries.
“I'm right here okay, Shadow.” I say opening the door and walking out smiling at Shadow.
Shadow sighs. “You know you can’t be late to this meeting of packs.” He says to me as we head out to the car.
“Do you think they will accept me?” I ask weary.
“Rose, I can not say with certainty that they will, but I can say that I will be next to you for whatever happens.” He replies as the car pulls out of the gates of my castle and he hands over the envelope of all the packs that will be in attendance.
“How much longer do I have to sit in this car? I think I could’ve ran faster.” I say impatiently.
“Well lucky for you we pulled in.” He says.
Looking out the window I was amazed by the gate and fencing surrounding this property; tall black iron gates beautifully designed but yet they held a look of impending doom and fear. Fear that creeps higher the more we travel up the long driveway. I blink as the building starts to show in the distance.
“Shadow, have you ever seen a castle that huge?” I ask.
“No alpha I have not.” He replies as the car comes to a stop in front of the entry stairs. I closed my eyes, breathing deeply and trying to calm my nerves. Why is that I can speak in front of my pack but now I’m more nervous than a pup in trouble,
“Here’s your time to shine girl.” Shadow says when he opens my door for me.
I chuckle at the informalness of his comment.
“Greetings Alpha Rose.” A young male says to me as we enter the front doors. I give him a nod as he points me in the direction of the conference hall.
Upon entering I see all of the Alpha mingling and conversing before everyone drops silent. “Who does that Luna think she is walking into an Alpha’s affairs?” I heard someone whisper. My wolf wanted to show whoever said it that I am no Luna.
“Alpha Rose! My darlin’!” I heard someone yell out to me from the other side of the room. I smiled as I heard the other Alpha murmurs as I was greeted into a big bear hug by Alpha Derek.
“Hello Alpha Derek.” I hugged back.
“How’s your father takin to not being Alpha of the pack?” He asked as he guided me over to the group he was conversing with.
“Retirement is not suiting him well. He still tries to do all the work so I don’t have to. But he’s learning that I can handle it.” I replied.
“Boy’s this is Alpha Rose from Blue Lake, she took over Alpha Richard’s position.” Alpha Derek said to them. They nodded but I could tell they weren’t happy. Most of them still follow and believe in the Old Rule. The rule that says I should be dead, but yet here I stand.
You need to stop feeling so damn small, it's almost sickening how you let everyone in this room control your fear, Rose. My wolf Echo said to me. I know Echo but this hard I haven’t been surrounded by this many Alpha’s since I was a pup.
“If everyone could find a seat Alpha Eric will be here in a moment.” A tall blond said to us as he stood behind the chair at the head of the table. Taking the chair to the right of it I sat down as Shadow stood behind me a little bit. Alpha Derek sat next to me. I leaned over to say something to Alpha Derek but at that moment Alpha Eric pushed through the closed doors.
“Sorry for making you all wait, you know how Elders are when they start telling stories.” Eric said, as he took the head chair.
That smell, Rose. Echo sang to me, I could feel her wagging her tail in excitement. I want him. No, we need him! Echo chanted to me. Will you shut up please. I tell Echo as I try to listen to the meeting, but it was getting harder with her singing praises about something or someone smelling of mint and firewood.
