Diva Summers stood near a post that was titled job offers, she had gained her memories two days ago, and remembered she was not from this world. Seventeen years ago, her soul had merged with a young child who was left in the woods, then was picked by an old man, after that, everything became a blur. But now after regaining her memories, she remembered feeling very uncomfortable and her soul being restless, then the old man said something about her soul not being fully connected with the original body and that he will have to supress her until her soul takes over the body completely. And now, her memories came back after seventeen whole years, and the good thing is, her powers are awakened.
To make matters worst, she was brought back to her biological family at the age of twelve, after the old man had died. Even without her powers, the old man had taught her a lot of things, mostly martial arts, but before his last breath, the last thing he told her, was not to stand out, otherwise her life will be short, plus something about him arranging a protector for her. At the time, she tried to ask who the protector was, but the man decided to die at that moment. He couldn't have died earlier or after everything was said, he just had to cut it short and leave her hanging.
She looked at the notice on the wall, tore of the paper from the wall, folded it and the placed it in her blue back pack. Looking around at the busy streets, and then to the path that led to her biological parents house, she dreaded the thought of walking in that house. All the fights she had to fight in secret, all the scheming that has been directed towards her, all the beatings she took because of them, and silently swallowed her anger because she had to lay low and not stand out, made her clench her fist. To anyone, the Riveras were a happy family, but no one knew the cruelty and maliciousness that hid deep inside them, for this six years she has lived with them, they more like emolyers and she was the employee.
The moment she entered the Rivera gates, the shout started, "you lazy girl, where were you?" That was her mother. Yes, her biological mother. Would anyone believe that, she gave birth to the original owner, but the way she treats her is worse than the way she treats Pooky, her pet cat. "You think that since you came to this house you will eat, sleep and live free? We don't pick money on the streets!"
"Mother, you can't say that, sister has grown so much now that she can make her own decisions," that was Monica Rivera, her younger sister. Well, step sister, don't misjudge her sweet smile, she can bite you at the back when you least expected it, and she has learned from it, "isn't that right, sister?" Her sentence sounded innocent and pure, but it clearly meant that Diva has grown horns and cannot be controlled anymore.
"Why would you say that sister?" Diva smiled back.
"You have the nerve to ask that? How many times have we told you not to go out, especially looking like that?" Mistress Rivera shouted, she liked the silent and naive Diva not this one, from the moment the stupid girl entered the door, Mistress Rivera felt like something was different, but she was too furious to put too much thought on it.
"What's all the noise about?" A middle aged man walked in with his eyes on the phone. The moment Diva heard that voice, she stiffened. That was her stepfather, the number one man who has made her six years in this house miserable, the man would beat her anytime with or without reason. He poured all his anger on her, for six years, her body always had scars.
"It's her," shouted her mother.
"Isn't she your child? You can't even control your offspring?" he replied, with his eyes still on the phone, he didn't need tolook up to know who she was shouting at.
Millie Rivera stiffened, with him reminding her everyday of the mistakes she made years ago, she couldn't hold back, and as she stared at that mistake, her anger grew even more. Six years ago, an old man came in this house and said the daughter she had left in the woods was not dead, and that if they didn't bring her back, he would announce to the world about their dirty little laundry. Not many people knew the Riveras dirty secrets but at the time, if the news of their secrets was aired, everything they fought hard for would have crumbled, and so they decided to bring her back." When were you planning to cook for us? We are hungry, and Mercy is about to come back from school, I don't want her to start complaining of hunger," she lifted he hands and stared at her wrist watch, "you have only forty seven minutes remaining. By then I need to see dinner on the table."
Mercy, the adopted daughter, who was treated better than her, the biological daughter was her nightmare. Anytime she cooked, Mercy never ate, she would serve a plate and then pretend that she wants to vomit, because she can't manage to erase the image of the incident that happened some years back and they always ended up ordering food for her.
"Why are you still standing there? Go do your job!"
Diva walked to the kitchen prepared a simple meal and then headed to her room. She did not take off her bag after arriving in her small crumbled room, instead, sh stood there, as if waiting or something. Five minutes later, the door was knocked open and her stepfather walked in. He grabbed her hair roughly and dragged her out, "if you did not want to cook, you should have said so!"
Diva did not scream or shout, she was already used to the treatment they gave her. How could she say she did not want to cook? The last time she did, she was starved and locked in the dark room, and that was after she was stroke with fifteen lashes.
