Prologue - destiny as it happened
The waves crashed against the weathered wooden planks of the Narrisa's Scorn. This aging pirate ship had once belonged to a notorious sea captain who sailed under the fearsome flag known as The White Omen, or TWO, as the islanders called it. The Narrisa was no ordinary vessel; she was crafted from the rare Black wood of the Sacumba Tree, a revered species that thrived in the Sycan forest. Legend had it that this tree was blessed by the Sycan goddess, Lumia. Out of reverence, the Sycans refrained from harvesting these trees for fear of her wrath. However, the Odessian Empire had no qualms about defying such beliefs. The King's ambition knew no bounds—no so-called heathen deities would impede the Empire's expansion. They invaded the Sycans, slaughtering many and enslaving their youth. Once the first coastal Sycan tribe had fallen, the Empire began to harvest the sacred trees in a bid to strengthen the Odessian naval fleet. After the initial shipment of trees was sent back to Odessia, the Sycan islands were engulfed in a dense fog, so thick that one could barely see their own hand in front of their face.
The navy ships that returned for the second harvest never found the island again, and the fate of those left behind remained a mystery. No ships had sailed in or out since, and the three vessels that attempted it vanished without a trace. From that singular harvest, the ship Narrissa was born—a unique creation made from Succumba wood, destined to be a one-of-a-kind vessel.
On the day of the Narrissa's christening, to be conducted by Lord Chen Chikks, Master and King of Odessa, she was stolen while the king slept in his castle chamber. This audacious feat had never been accomplished before, marking a singular moment in history. In the early morning, Captain Lyos, his son, and a small crew of pirates set out to free her from the king's harbor, escaping into the vast ocean.
The sleek black ship proved to be faster than any other crafted before or since, gliding through the water with elegance and agility, turning like a dancer. The ship seemed woven from the very essence of the sea. Yet, it harbored another secret: it was impervious to fire, much like the skin of the Pyris people. Turrets catapulted flaming cannonballs that brushed harmlessly against her as she sailed toward the horizon. This daring theft sparked the legacy of The White Omens pirates.
The Narrissa was passed down through four generations: from Captain Lyos Legittus to his son Captain Josie Legittus, and then to Captain Leon Legittis. At this critical turning point, the fate of the ship, the Narrissa, was entrusted to Leon's daughter—a half-breed born from the rare union of Siren and Pyris blood, embodying a striking juxtaposition of contrasting natures. This unprecedented inheritance was not without its complications. Originally, the Narrissa had been intended for Leon's son, Petros, who had trained his whole life to assume command and uphold the family legacy.
However, everything changed the day an unexpected visitor appeared at the docks of Saltous Bay. A 16-year-old girl, drenched from the relentless rain, stood at the gangway, waiting to board the vessel that had been the pride of her father's life. Her presence was shocking, a living contradiction, as she represented a dual lineage that never should have existed just nine years earlier—a testimony to a forbidden encounter between her father and a Siren.
Leon had always believed the legends surrounding Sirens to be mere tales, creations of the fearful and superstitious. Yet, here stood his daughter, a manifestation of his past, proof that he had survived a formidable encounter with one of the most dangerous creatures of myth. With cascading dark hair, Purple hued eyes a mix od the seas blue and the fires red reflecting both the stormy depths of the ocean and the fiery spirit of a Pyris, she was as captivating as she was intimidating.
This unprecedented revelation posed a challenge for Leon. He lived in a world where lineage could dictate destiny, yet this half-breed girl defied the norms, possessing both the mesmerizing allure and voice of a Siren coupled with the fierce, fiery essence of her Pyris ancestry. As conflict brewed and threats to their lineage loomed, Leon had to grapple with his feelings toward her rare gifts and the immense potential she wielded.
Entrusting the ship to her was a risk, one laden with uncertainty. Yet, he recognized that she might be the key to bridging the worlds of Sirens and Pyris—a chance for unity in a divided realm. Would she rise to the occasion, embracing her unique heritage, or would the tempest of her origins consume her? As the tides turned and the horizon beckoned, Roxy was not just stepping onto a ship; she was embarking on a journey toward her destiny.
