The Alpha Kings' Mansion
CORALINE The taxi rolled to a stop in front of the mansion. For a few seconds, I remained seated, staring through the window. Ten years had passed. Ten long years. Yet the sight of this place still made something inside me tighten. The mansion stood proudly against the morning sky, larger than I remembered. White stone walls stretched across the massive estate, while black iron gates guarded the entrance like silent soldiers. Tall glass windows reflected the sunlight, making the entire building shine with wealth and power. Nothing had changed. Only I had. I reached for the door handle and stepped out of the taxi. The driver placed my small suitcase on the ground before driving away, leaving me alone with the memories I had spent years trying to bury. I looked up at the mansion one last time. This was the home of the three Alpha Kings. The same family that had taken everything from me. I curled my fingers around the handle of my suitcase. Ten years ago, I had sworn I would return. Not as the frightened little girl who had lost her entire pack. But as the woman who would make them pay. Without another thought, I walked toward the entrance. Just as I expected, I wasn't the only one there. More than twenty young women stood outside the mansion, dressed neatly for the interview. Some whispered nervously to each other. Others straightened their clothes or checked their reflections in their phones. A few confidently talked about how much they wanted the job. None of them knew what they were walking into. For them, this was nothing more than a chance to earn a good salary. For me, this was start of my revenge. The heavy front doors opened before anyone could knock. An elderly butler stepped outside. His gray hair was neatly combed, and his black uniform looked spotless. "Good morning," he said politely. "Please follow me. The interview will begin shortly." Everyone quickly gathered their things and followed him inside. The polished floor gleamed beneath our feet as we followed the butler deeper into the house. "Aah!" A young woman screamed, catching everyone's attention. She slipped and crashed hard onto the marble floor, her handbag flying across the room as her head hit the wall. Several women gasped. Suddenly a mischievous laughter echoed from above. A little boy leaned over the railing, grinning proudly at the chaos below. His dark hair was messy, and his bright blue eyes sparkled with amusement as he twirled the end of a thin fishing line between his fingers. The invisible string stretched across the hallway, right where the woman had tripped. Julian Valroth, Odin's brother. Of course it had to be him. The others looked horrified. "What kind of child does something like that?" "She could have broken her leg!" "That's so mean!" Julian only laughed harder before disappearing from the balcony, his footsteps racing down the corridor. The butler rubbed his forehead like this happened every single day. "My apologies," he said calmly. "Please ignore Young Master Julian." The fallen woman struggled to her feet with watery eyes, already looking ready to quit. I simply stared at the place where Julian had been a moment ago. “This won't do,” I muttered to myself. The butler was busy helping the woman who had fallen while the other applicants gathered around her, whispering among themselves. No one noticed when I quietly stepped away from the group. I followed the scent of Julian through the mansion. It didn't take long to find him. I opened a room and saw him standing on a wide windowsill with the glass window pushed open. One foot was already outside as he looked down at the garden below, clearly preparing to jump. "Julian!” I called out, stopping him. He turned his head and looked at me. The grin on his face grew wider. Before he could move again, I walked over, reached up, and grabbed his ear. "Ow!" he shouted, trying to pull away. "Let go of me!" "You aren't going anywhere." He frowned. "Take your hand off me!" "You almost caused someone to get seriously injured." "So what?" "So you're coming with me. You must apologise.” I gently pulled him away from the window until both of his feet were back inside the room. Julian glared at me. "How dare you touch me?" he demanded. "Do you even know who I am?" "I do." "I'm Julian Valroth!" "So what?” I fired back, using his own words against him. His expression became even more annoyed. "Then you should know you can't order me around." "I'm not ordering you around. I'm telling you to do the right thing." He folded his arms. "I'm not listening to you." "Don't make me repeat myself. You did something bad therefore you should apologise." "No." "You frightened her, and she got hurt because of your silly prank." "I don't care." "You should." He looked me up and down before speaking again. "You're just an omega. How dare an omega grab my ear?" The words caught me by surprise. An omega? Scoffing at him, I ran my hand through my hair trying to remain calm. He was still a child. There was no point arguing with him. "I don't care what you think of me. You're still going to apologize." I said, keeping my voice calm. "I'm not!" "You are." "I said no!" The next second, he dropped onto the floor. He kicked his legs against the marble and screamed as loudly as he could. "I won't apologize!" "I hate you!" "Leave me alone!" His cries echoed through the hallway. Several servants stopped what they were doing and looked over, but none of them came closer. From the expressions on their faces, it was obvious this wasn't the first time Julian had behaved this way. I rubbed my forehead. How had no one corrected this child's behavior? Before I could speak again, a calm voice came from behind me. "What's going on here?" Julian stopped screaming. I turned toward the voice, my eyes darting to the person who made Julian so afraid. A man stood a short distance away. He was tall and dressed in a perfectly fitted black suit. A black mask covered his entire face, hiding every feature except his piercing blue eyes. Those eyes moved from Julian to me before settling on my face. For a moment, neither of us spoke. The instant our eyes met, my breathing stopped. A strange feeling spread through my body without warning. My heartbeat became faster, and I felt an overwhelming pull toward the masked man standing in front of me. My wolf who had been silent for years, suddenly awoke. One word filled my mind. “Mate.”
