Chapter One
It's been only three months since William proposed to me. Three months since I graduated from Cambridge University.  Three months exactly...since I told William that I was pregnant.  "Rhett?" I clear my throat, shaking my head to clear my thoughts and toss a smile to the barista as she calls my name. She smiles back and hands me my tea before quickly getting back to work.  The coffee shop I was in was a bit crowded but I made my way over to the table where Bri, Philip, and my boyfri-sorry, fiancé, were sitting.  As I sat down, William wrapped his arm around my waist and kissed my cheek gently. "Hi. baby." I smile at him and set my tea down in front of him and William takes a grateful sip. Bri and Philip were wearing matching coats and sweaters, cuddling up together as Bri sipped her hot chocolate and looked at me.  "What?" I ask, taking off my coat. Bri just smiles and shrugs, looking away.  "Nothing, nothing. I'm just kind of sad that a certain someone hasn't asked another certain someone to be their maid of honor at said certain someone's wedding."  I roll my eyes, a chuckle escaping my lips. "Very funny. You know I'm just waiting for the right time to ask and besides," I say, wrapping my arms around Williams's arm and leaning into him, "I'm not too worried about this.  I know that Mum and William's parents will handle things and plan the event just how William and I would like it."  Philip raises a brow and rests his elbows on the table, looking between William and me. "But it's your wedding. Wouldn't you like to be the ones who plan it? C'mon, Rhett. You cannot tell me that you didn't plan your wedding at least a few hundred times as a little girl."  William shrugs next to me and looks at me for a moment. "We both have, but we're both kinds of under a lot of pressure. With me being crowned King soon and Rhett still learning everything from my mother about what she has to do as Queen, it's just a lot. And I've already told Rhett that I don't want her stressing out about a wedding that is extremely stressful and needs to worry or be more focused on our baby and taking care of herself and her work." I nod, smiling at the couple in front of me. "And on top of that, William promised that we'd have meetings with our parents once a week to make final decisions about everything and to be fitted for whatever."  Bri nods along and then pauses, slamming her hand down on the table and gasping aloud. "Wait!" My eyes widen a bit and I look around, smiling apologetically to those who look at us.  "Are you having the wedding before or after the baby? It's a lot to plan a wedding and you're already a few months along and you're already kind of showing a bit, love," she says, glancing down at my stomach. I look down and let out a small sigh. William places his hand on my barely budged out stomach and kisses the side of my head. I smile at him and put my left hand over his, the cold from my ring making his hand flinch a bit and I giggle. The sweater I was wearing hid my stomach a bit but we all knew what was there...a baby.  I look up at Bri and shrug my shoulders, taking back my tea from William as he goes to take a sip and take one instead. "I guess it depends on how quickly I can get through my lessons. The coronation is already planned so we have to plan around that, but we also have to plan around the baby. So either after or before the coronation, we're getting married. But if it's up to me..." I pause, glancing at William and then back at Bri as he raises his brows. "I'd like to be married before we have a baby." William looks at me for a moment and then nods, taking my hand in his. "We'll try, love."  I smile at him and look back at Bri. She was smiling small and rubbing her own very pregnant belly. "Well, never the less, we'll always be here and will help in any way we can. And tomorrow afternoon, Phil and I have the appointment to tell the s*x and a few more important tests to run before she's due."  "Or he. It could be a boy." Philip says, wiggling his brows. Bri smacks his arm and tells him to help her up and they finally stand and come over to us.  "It's lovely seeing you again, babe. I'll stop by tomorrow after the appointment?" Bri asks, pulling me into a hug. I nod and return it, patting her back and pressing a kiss to her golden cheeks.  "You're more than welcome to come over. I may be working a bit but just let me know when."  Bri nods and we both wait for William and Philip to finish talking before the couple leaves. William then turns his attention to me and takes my hand in his, lacing our fingers together and pulling me against him as we stand as well.  "Should we get going as well? I was hoping that we could watch some films and have a day inside," he says, kissing my cheek and wrapping his arms around me.  I smile at the idea and nod, turning my head and pressing my lips against his in a soft kiss. "That sounds amazing, baby." My fiancé grabs my hand once more and we both leave the coffee shop and head toward my car. William grabs for my keys but I move out of his reach and laugh, shaking my head as I unlock the car.  "Why won't you ever let me drive?" he whines as he gets in and buckles up. I get in and start the car, looking at him. "You drive your car, I drive mine. And we always go places in your car and it's always you who drives. I thought we ought to switch that up."  William rolls his eyes and reaches over, resting his hand on my thigh as I drive back to our house.  When we get back, we instantly go straight to the kitchen and William turns on the oven and gets a pan out.  "What are you making?" I ask as I take off my coat and hang it up.  I hear some more rumbling around and the fridge open. "I was thinking about grilled cheese and some strawberries. Does that sound good to you?"  I tell him yes and make my way up the stairs and to the bedroom. I take my phone out of my pants and see that my Mum had sent me a text. I decided to call her as I undress and slip on one of my white day gowns.  "Hello, love! How are you feeling today?" Mum asks.  I smile, moving into the bathroom where I set my phone on the counter and turn the speaker on. "I feel great. William and I met up with Bri and Phillip today and we had some coffee and tea. We just got home." "That's good to hear. I'm glad you all are getting closer and putting time aside to be together. Do you know when the baby's due?" Mum asks. I can hear her in the kitchen at home, probably baking cupcakes or making pasta.  "Bri said either at the end of the month or the end of next. I'm not quite sure exactly but I'll ask her and let you know. Have you thought about what I said about the color scheme for the wedding?" Mum lets out a gruesome groan. "'Rhett, this is a royal wedding. You have to follow the colors that Anne and Edmund have said to use. 'Deep reds and navy'. They're lovely colors and I will make it fit, as I always do."  William has told me numerous times that we could use whatever colors we wanted and I, for some reason, was obsessed with a 'foresty' wedding with deep greens and greys. But no, that fails to happen.  I wash my face and brush my hair out as my mother continues to go on about the wedding and how her day has been until she says something that sends a shiver down my spine.  "Have you told your father about the baby?"  I hadn't talked to my father in years, not since he left my mother and I alone. He would try to come back, asking for the money that we didn't have or to start drama but we both ignored him. Lately, my mother has been in contact with him and they seem to be on good terms. I, however, still refuse to see or speak to him.  "No, and I'm not going to.  He'll hear about it all soon enough and when he does, he'll know then." I say, rubbing my moisturizer on my face and neck. "Besides, it's none of his business what I do, who I'm with, or how I'm doing. When he left, he took my respect and my care. So no, mother, I haven't told him."  The other line is quiet for a moment and I let out a deep sigh, closing my eyes. "I'm sorry, I don't mean to be bratty or rude. I just really don't like that man."  Mum chuckles and continues her cooking. "I understand that, love. I'm just saying that people change and he really wants to be a part of your life now-"  "He only wants to be apart of my life because I'm marrying the Prince, for Christ's sake. He only shows up now because he's going to want money and when I give him what he wants and actually thinks he's changed, he'll leave again." I snap. Mum tries to say something else but I shake my head, gripping the counter until my knuckles turn white. "Now I'm sorry, but I have to go. I'll see you soon."   And with that, I hung up the phone, grabbed it, and walked out of the bedroom only to bump into William.  "Are you alright?" he asks, reaching up and cupping my face in his hand as he brushes my hair behind my ear. I nod, swallowing hard as his touch calms me down.  "Yeah, I just got a bit worked up with my mum. I'm sorry I took so long." I tell him, sending him a small smile.  William's eyes soften and he leans forward, pressing his lips to my forehead in a soft kiss and pulls me to the bed where he's set up trays with plates of food, fruit bowls, and glasses of sparkling grape juice. I smile at him and we both climb into bed, careful not to knock anything over and get comfortable leaning against each other. "What would you like to watch?" he asks, looking over at me as I take a large bite of my grilled cheese. I blink up at him and he just laughs at me, shaking his head.  "I've heard that The Witcher is pretty good. How about it?" He asks, wrapping his arm around my shoulders as I snuggle closer.  "Sounds great," I say past the cheesy deliciousness in my mouth. I grab my 'Fake Wine' as William calls it and takes a sip before stealing one of his strawberries and eating it.  William slaps my thigh teasingly and gives me a stern look before I laugh and lean up, kissing him softly and then pushing another berry into his mouth and he leans his head back as he chews.  "So, are you really not going to tell your father about any of this?" he asks quietly.  The question shocked me a bit, coming from him. I had told William everything there was to know about my father and all he's done and did so he knows it's a severely sensitive subject for me.  I sigh quietly, placing a hand on my stomach where my baby bump was just barely showing. "I'm not sure. I'm really not." I tell him honestly.  William just looks at me and then leans over, laying me back as he kisses me softly. "I think you should reach out...but only when you're ready. And no matter what, you'll always have me and your mother, and my family and Bri and Philip there to help you along. And soon," he says, placing his hand over mine on my stomach as he locks eyes with me, "we'll have this little sunshine with us."  I smile at William's words and wrap my arms around him, pulling him down for a deep kiss that lasts a few minutes until I push him away when his hands get too wandery.  He gives me a questioning look and I pull my tray back over and take another bite of my grilled cheese.  "What?" I say. "I'm hungry."  William barks out a laugh and we get comfortable against each other once more and he starts the show, kissing my head as I finish both of our meals. I try to relax but my mind keeps pulling me back to my father and how much, deep down, I want to know him and I want him to be a part of not only my life but my child's too.
