I start to question why I ever joined the Shadow Ciphers as I crawl my way through the ventilation ducts of the office building. Governor Bolton should be off planet for a week, so I can take my time getting the information that the Ciphers asked me to extract. I'll admit that when I saw the mission posted on the Shadow Cipher's page, I jumped at the chance to cause Governor Bolton problems. I remember my brother, Cygnus's last race that he had to throw because of that man. My brother is a bit of an i***t. I love him and he took care of me when our parents died, but he tends to get in debt to bad people. One of them is Governor Bolton. Cygnus is a famous racer. He can pilot and drive just about anything. He's the best racer in the galaxy, but he's under the thumb of people who want to control the stakes of the races. It's slowly destroying the joy he's always found in the sport. It's hard to watch. So I want to take Governor Bolton down. Nobody f***s with my family and gets away with it.
I finally make it to the office vent and it takes some finesse, but I've been picking locks and breaking into places I shouldn't since I was a child, so it's no problem. I slide out of the vent and drop gracefully to the ground. I run my fingers through my pink Mohawk and look around the office. It's tidy, it's simple. There is a picture on the desk of him with my brother at a race and it makes me a little sick to my stomach. I drop into his office chair and start tackling his computer's password. It isn't difficult. He should really get better cyber security. Oh well, his naïveté is my boon. I start going through his files and put in a data chip so I can extract what I need. It's mostly financial stuff. Then I stumble upon an encrypted file. It isn't part of what the Ciphers want, but I've always been too curious for my own good.
It takes about a minute, but I'm able to crack the file and what I find has me floored. There are multiple videos of him engaging in various illegal activities. I'm watching one of the videos, when I hear voices down the hall. s**t! I'm out of time. I copy the file onto a separate data chip so that I can use it later. I scramble up the vent and into the ducts and stay still, trying to not make any noises. I hear a woman's voice as well as Bolton's, but his voice sounds like it's coming from the speaker of a data pad. The woman must be on the phone with him.
"I'm in your office now. I don't see anybody. I don't know why you got the intruder alert, sir." The woman says.
"I don't care if it takes all night, somebody was in my office and obtained information that I can't have getting out. Find them and put a stop to them. I don't care if you have to cover up another murder, do what needs to be done. I won't accept failure." Bolton's weaselly voice says and then the sound of the call ending. The woman sighs and looks around. She checks everywhere and everything about 5 times before she notices a screw I forgot on the ground that came from the vent. She looks up towards the vent and I start to slowly move to make as little noise as possible. I'm moving backwards and don't realize the turn in the vent is there when I run into it and a loud crash is heard. I can't imagine her not hearing that so I start scrambling.
When I get to where I initially entered the vent from outside, I climb out and there is a beautiful woman with a gun aiming directly at me.
I chuckle and lift my hands in the air. "Well, hello there. I can explain."
She just lifts an eyebrow and says, "Really?"
