The night my life fell apart began with a beautiful red moon. "Do you understand what it means to be the mate of an Alpha King?" I shook my head. "It means becoming Luna of the most powerful kingdom in the supernatural world." His eyes darkened. "And you are not worthy." The words struck harder than any physical blow. Princess Selena smiled. "Alexander, darling, surely you aren't suggesting this pathetic creature is your mate?" He turned toward her. "No." Relief spread across her face. Then he looked back at me. "I will never accept a powerless omega as my queen." Tears filled my eyes. "Please," I whispered. "I didn't choose this either." His expression remained cold. Before the entire royal court, Alexander raised his right hand. "I, Alexander Blackwood, Alpha King of the Shadow Moon Kingdom..." My heart began pounding violently. No. Please, no. "...reject you, Aria Williams, as my destined mate." A terrible pain exploded inside my chest. I screamed. My knees hit the marble floor. It felt as though invisible claws were tearing my heart apart. Around me, people laughed. Some whispered. Others watched with pity. Princess Selena stepped closer. "Know your place, little omega." I lifted my tear-filled eyes toward Alexander. He watched me without moving. For one foolish moment, I hoped he would change his mind. But he simply turned away. "Remove her from my sight." Something inside me broke. Yet beneath the pain, something else awakened. Something ancient. Something powerful. As I struggled to stand, the enormous crystal chandeliers began trembling. The ballroom lights flickered. Outside, thunder shook the heavens. And the blood-red moon suddenly turned black. A mysterious voice echoed inside my head. The last Moon Guardian has awakened. I froze. Moon Guardian? What did that mean? Before I could understand, a sharp pain shot through my body. My vision blurred.
