I never visited any railroad, maybe when I was a baby, but not once I remember. But for everything there's a first time.
The environment full of sad people in their farewells, I can hardly imagine how many families you have here. I rub one hand on the other, sitting next to my father on one of the waiting benches, looking at the movement and hearing someone shouting from the train's destination. As I don't go to the city much, I never thought Interlaken would be so busy, or had so many people and so many families, especially that so many split so quickly.
For some reason my attention is caught, in a lovely little girl, running by the station in her light pink dress, with brown hair flying between the crowd, it's inevitable not to see her froggy smile, right behind her a girl wearing a white dress and a man in a suit, they look at her carefully running, a little further ahead the little girl stops and turns looking for her parents, I believe they are parents.
- The train to Spiez has just arrived - someone screams.
My body shakes when I hear the announcement of my train. I always wanted to know more about my country, but maybe in other circumstances. I get up synchronized with my father, I get down a little bit picking up the suitcase on my foot and turn to the man next to me. Impossible not to notice the sadness and tiredness of those brown eyes.
I sigh long before giving a smile, trying to comfort him from his bad decision. I won't lie that there is still a hint of hope that he will fall into himself and realize that this is crazy, he won't be able to take care of mom and the plough alone, but despite the hope I know it's impossible, because Meyer doesn't usually change his mind so easily.
- I hope he will forgive me one day.- He says suddenly.- But I'm sure it's the best for you.
I could fight again, but I accepted this, I accepted that he said what is best for me because I know he is tired and seeks the minimum of peace and security next to mom.
- I'm not angry.- The comfort.- But I'm not happy either, we both know that my place is on the farm, taking care of mommy...
Your hand takes a lock of my hair and your fingertips glide over it.
- No Lily, your place is with someone who loves you and gives you as much security and comfort as you had with us.- Your long arms envelop me, squeezing me against your body.- Have a good trip, and don't forget to write us...
I feel the last spark of hope drain from my chest.
- I will do it daddy! - I return your hug and walk away.
I stare at his face, trying to record every single detail, the position of every strand of hair, the shade of his gray hair, the location of his wrinkles, his poorly shaved beard, his almonded, sad eyes...
- Five minutes to departure...
I close and squeeze my eyes, as soon as I open them, I force a smile on my father and turn my back, walking towards the entrance door, the employee faces me with a nice smile and stretches out his right hand, waiting for my ticket, I deliver it waiting for him to evaluate. He hands me back and then smiles before directing me to the armchair. I get comfortable in the seat uncomfortable, but I feel relieved to be by the window, it's a privilege to know that in the midst of the disorder I find myself, I can enjoy the view during the trip.
Luckily Spiez is not so far from Interlaken, I remember the boys diverting their way back from other cities to rest at my sister's house, they were the only ones who ever saw her house, but they never told me anything about it.
They got off the train calmly, among the crowd of people, who just as I was looking for them to come. I looked everywhere for Diana or her husband, until my eyes rested on a girl with brown hair like mine, green eyes like mom's and almond eyes like dad's, the perfectly cut fringe impeccably positioned to the right of her forehead, her eyes met mine and a smile illuminated her face.
- Lily!- Diana says animatedly as she wraps me in her arms.- Oh my God, it's real, you're here...
I force a lively smile to look.
- Yes...- A hug again.
I haven't seen my sister since her wedding, she left the next day from town to live in a beautiful house with her husband.
The three of us, different from my brothers, took the color from mom's eyes. When we were younger and mommy was sane, every time we went out to the city, or went to some event, we called attention mainly by the beautiful green eyes, and we just weren't called triplets because we were always walking on stairs.
Diana takes my hand, pulling me close to a man.
-I don't know if you remember, but this is Sipp.
- Her husband.- Interrupts her.- Of course I remember, I remember even more the beautiful ceremony they had.
Sipp Schmidt, Diana's husband, an irland count, his red hair and height do not deny his offspring. The penetrating dark blue eyes always served me as a justification for Diana to have fallen in love, since he has nothing else but a title to add for my sister, but I'm wrong, he loves her and makes her very happy.
- Please call me Sipp, Lily.- The man shakes my hand.- We are family, remember?
- We are family, remember?
The road to Diana's house was a great talk about our childhood, our family and the news. Sipp ended up discovering things from Diana's childhood that he had no idea his delicate wife was capable of, as if playing in the mud after one of the biggest storms in history. They told me about the news of the last year in the family, how the count got richer and how they wanted the family to grow soon, since this is Sipp's dream.
- Finally we are close. Diana changes the subject, with her eyes stuck to the window.
I look through the glass and feel the air missing in my lungs, I was right, classic big house, a huge and beautiful garden in front of the house, it's as beautiful as I had imagined...
