After lunch, Lillian carefully put away the crown.
In the afternoon, many members of the Kent family arrived with lavish gifts to visit Claude. It didn't seem like they were there to celebrate but rather to offer guilt-ridden apologies.
They had every reason to feel guilty. Many of them had probably been wishing for Claude's demise, only to be surprised by his recovery.
Lillian's ex-boyfriend, Harry, was among them.
Standing away from the crowd, Lillian quietly observed these people.
She noticed that Melissa's words didn't seem like mere pleasantries...
When facing these people, the coldness Claude exuded was at least ten times stronger than when he was with her.
His impatience and sarcasm were hidden in his eyes, showing only indifference and disregard.
Everyone was surrounding Melissa and Claude while Lillian leaned on the master bedroom balcony, watching the scene with great interest.
Suddenly, her and Claude's eyes met through the crowd of dozens.
There was a faint warning in those blue eyes.
Lillian raised her hand slightly and toned down her amused expression.
For some reason, she felt she was no longer afraid of Claude.
Enjoying the afternoon sun, Lillian admired the garden outside the balcony, something she hadn't cared to look at yesterday.
Outside the castle was a large area of meticulously tended Damask roses, stunningly red in the sunlight, like glowing red rubies, very beautiful.
"Lillian, I need to talk to you."
A deep male voice broke the peaceful moment Lillian was enjoying. It was Harry Kent.
'Jerk.'
"We're over."
Lillian dodged Harry's outstretched hand, coldly distancing herself from him.
"But I still love you, Lillian. I can't forget you... You'll forgive me, won't you?"
Her response was a crisp slap across his face.
Harry's feigned affection made her want to puke.
"You just can't forget the Kent family's wealth, can you?"
Lillian touched her palm. Since slapping them that day, she seemed used to dealing with disgusting people this way.
She had long seen through him. After giving him a once-over, she scoffed and said, "Claude Kent has already woken up, and everything in the Kent family belongs to him."
Harry became agitated. "So what? He can never stand up now. How could the Kent family want a disabled leader? Do you want to spend the rest of your life with a cripple?"
It left Lillian momentarily stunned, but she quickly regained her composure and watched Harry's face coldly.
"Lillian, as long as you and Claude have a child, Melissa will give shares to the child! If you reconcile with me, we can work together to get everything in the Kent family, and then..."
As Harry spoke, he tried to grab Lillian's hand, but she shook it off harshly.
"I am now Mrs. Kent, already owning everything in the Kent family, and..." Lillian looked at Harry with disdain. "If I had to choose a partner, Claude is far better than you, more handsome, more upright, and more capable than you. Moreover, he wouldn't expect me to use a child's shares to support him!"
Harry, humiliated, tried to grab Lillian as she prepared to leave.
Lillian wasn't the least bit intimidated. Instead, she calmly said, "Are you planning to lay a hand on the current Mrs. Kent here at the Kent Manor?"
Harry threatened her in a low voice. "I am the real heir of the Kent family. Believe it or not, I can make sure you can't stay here anymore!"
Lillian carefully wiped the hand Harry had just touched with a handkerchief and smiled softly.
"Is that so? Let's see who leaves first."
Before leaving the balcony, Lillian paused and quietly warned Harry. "You should better stop bothering me. Otherwise, I don't know what I might do. After all, having such a stupid and evil ex-boyfriend who wants to freeload is really embarrassing."
Lillian came back to the house, leaving the disgruntled Harry on the balcony, ignoring him completely.
Claude accurately cast his gaze toward her among the crowd with an inquisitive look.
Lillian pretended not to notice his stare, showing an innocent smile.
Claude looked away and coldly said, "I need to rest."
Soon, the guests began to leave one after another.
Lillian watched and found it amusing.
'These people are just like sardines in the sea, coming quickly, leaving quickly, and their comings and goings were not by their own choice but by the circumstances. What difference is there between living like this and being a sardine?'
Lillian touched the pink diamond ring on her ring finger, where there used to be a silver ring.
She had once been one of the sardines, but she didn't want to live like sardines in the future. Instead, she wanted to master her own life.
"Did you enjoy the show?"
Once the guests had left, Claude looked at her, his face expressionless as he asked the question.
