For thirty seconds, the two said nothing, but their eyes spoke a million words.
"What about this girl?" The bodyguard beside me enquired. His question earned him a dangerous scowl from Cooper.
"What about her?" Cooper crossed arms over his chest. Dear Lord! How many days a week did he go to the gym?
What followed was the most awkwardest silence as the employee had nothing to say to his boss. What could he say?
The sound of hurried footsteps cleared the intense air as everybody glare at anybody.
As soon as the servant joined us, Cooper darted forward-ignoring the questioning eyes of his mother- and grabbed the clothes from her as well as my arm. He didn't say a word to any of them as he dragged me around his mother and towards the grand pillars of the mansion.
I wanted to say something, but so much had been said and happened that my own mind could not process half of it.
The air shifted as soon as I stepped foot in that house. It was warm, friendly, and so huge.
My bare feet took two steps to each one Cooper made just to keep up with his pace. He was angry, so angry. I could hear his frustrated breaths while he led me down a dim-lit corridor with a few doors at either side. And just when my lips opened to say something, anything, he reached for the first door and went through with his rough hand still on my wrist.
"Get dressed!" The male ordered pushing the clothes on my chest.
"It's d-dark!" I murmured terrified.
In swift silent motions, Cooper released my wrist, before the whole room flooded with white light. My eyes quickly closed to the sting of the unexpected brightness. Even when they finally opened, my vision went blurry for a few seconds.
"Hurry up!"
"Could yo-you turn, around...please!"
Cooper snorted, giving me the 'seriously?' look. The fact that he had seen me naked in the conference room didn't change reality that he was a stranger...a male stranger who was unusually strong.
"What do you plan to do to me?"
I placed the clothes on the nearest furniture I could see, a desk. My eyes shot around, taking in every detail, the room was a small library with and added desk at the entrance. A computer screen was facing the wall, next to a neat stack of four books to its right.
"I'm not sure!"
His answer made my intestines roll into little knots that would kill me soon. Well that would be better than whatever this family would do to me.
"What's wrong with your eyes?"
"Huh?" He tilted his head to the side and I quickly pressed the green floral dress on my chest.
"I saw your eyes glow."
"Forget about that forever if you want to live."
A constriction popped up in my throat, which I forcefully swallowed before a panic attack could strike.
"Your father, um...what will he do to me?"
Cooper turned around, just as I was straightening the hem of the dress. It looked flawless apart from how tight it felt on my chest.
For a second, I saw him engulf my entire body with his green eyes.
"You won't be meeting him tonight! Or any other night!" He breathed as he reached out to grabbed my wrist again. I said nothing because it felt like he was changing his mind and wanted to rescue me from whatever his father would do to me.
Through the corridor again, only this time I wasn't lagging behind and felt confident with the dress on.
I even had time to study the spacious living room that had a large TV mounted on the east wall. The chairs were milky white, not a damn spot on them.
A small smile curved on my lips as my eyes ended up on the male rushing to get me out of there. He might have been a stranger, but the thought of him wanting to protect me really poked something inside my soul.
"Leaving so soon?" A manly voice exploded from the lounge, stopping Cooper dead on his feet.
The door was so close, but it seemed like freedom would wait a little longer till Cooper confronted whoever had spoken.
We both turned.
"Dad?"
Oh boy!
The older male was walking down the wide stairs, a hand on the rail as he what? Felt the texture of the curved wood?
"So this is the girl that interrupted my meeting?"
His aura belittled mine, his green eyes devouring me mercilessly. Another minute of his calm pace and he was standing right in front of us. Be old as he was, he still had a nice body, muscles here and there while the black hair on his head was decorated by a few gray hairs.
"Girl, what is your name?"
"A-Alexa, Sir!"
"Alexa! Hmmm! Tell me something dear, which pack sent you to interrupt it? Or, is it the hunters?"
My brows furrowed.
Nothing he had said made sense. "Pack? I really don't know what you're-"
"It was me!" Cooper cut in, his hand pulling me behind him so he would face his father eye to eye. "I set up the entire thing!"
The second green pair left me to scowl at the son. "Why would you do such a thing? Do you know how important-"
"It is all a strategy to make all the Alphas aware that humans can slip into any space no matter how safe we feel. They killed one of us just as easily as Alexa managed to get in that room."
What were they even talking about. Humans! Alphas! Killed! Could they all be names they were using to identify themselves and the enemies? Well whoever the humans were, they sounded horrific. Why would they kill the Alphas? Or was it some rivalry they had going on?
"And her?"
They both looked down at me as Cooper gave my wrist a little squeeze. "She's my play toy, knows nothing at all."
"You've always been strange, but why would you pick a human for a play toy?"
Play toy? Cooper gave me another squeeze, maybe urging me to play along.
"Should I wait in the car, boo?"
He put on a really cute smile that was so convincing, "sure!"
My heart was racing, my breathing short and fast while I reached of the door. An unexpected smack on my butt hade jerking in a little squeal. What followed was the most traumatizing laugh I would never forget, Cooper's father. "She's a hot one!" He complimented as I closed the door behind me.
The cold air slapped my conscience awake the very second I shut that door. How had I gotten myself into all the drama? Most importantly, why had Cooper helped me?
