All about the characters
When a love-triangle causes jealousy that leads to a murderer in a small town, where the "good ole boy" system still prevails. The murder victim (Billy Joe) is married to a cops son's ex-wife (Stevie Jo), and they share two minor children. There is a protective order in place against the children's father (Herman Gehl) for both Stevie Jo and Billy Joe. The shooter was a Marine veteran Jeremy Gehl, and the brother of Herman Gehl.
Billy Joe had two children from a previous relationship, along with one grand child at the time of his murder. He was loved by his entire family, and had a good relationship with all his family members. He was the type of guy that would help anyone out if they needed anything.
Stevie Jo had left Herman and started seeing Billy, which had caused them to get into an altercation at a grocery store which was started by Herman, Billy had a knife while Herman also had a knife, the police were called. Billy then put a protective order against Herman to make sure that he and his family were safe. The events were all caused by the fact that Stevie Jo was in a relationship with Billy, and no longer with Herman because she had custody of their two minor children.
Edith and Ernest are Billy's parents; they have been together for over 50 years. The have two children Billy Joe and Dennis.
Freddy is Billy's uncle and Ernest's brother. He has helped Billy's parents along with Billy, and they all have a very good relationship.
Herman and Jeremy Gehl are brothers, and their father is a local sheriff department officer. Herman has been in and out of trouble for several different reasons, but he never got any real time out of his offenses because his dad always managed to sweep them under the rug.
Jeremy was a Marine veteran, with a wife and two children (he took care and raised a child that was not his).
Kelly Minton is the local prosecutor, and Blanton is the local judge over the case.
