Time to heal

678 Words
Everyone is still grieving, but time is supposed to heal the emptiness that everyone feels. The loss of a loved one is always hard, but when it's a child or a parent those wounds never heal. Everyone just has to keep on going so that their loved one does not die in vain, keep fighting for justice (whatever they have to do to find peace of mind).  Flowers are put on Billy's grave for father's day, his birthday, his date of death, and Christmas. His family still celebrates his birthday, that is a way for them to keep his memory alive for them. They still post pictures of him on social media for his friends and family to see. Everyone heals different ways, and things of this nature helps them heal. Billy's grave and headstone was vandalized, the family knows who did it. Nothing was done, instead the family cleaned it up. They called the police, made a report, but nothing came of it because of that person's family once again. When you are in a small town, where everyone knows everyone, people talk and seem to know everyone's business. That can be a good thing when raising small children, but when it comes to something tragic and heartbreaking then it's a totally different thing.  Small towns are just as corrupt as a large city can be, everyone is going to cover up crimes when they know what happened to them. People are charged for murder as long as it is not committed by people related to a police officer. Drug users, drug dealers spend just as much time as people that hurt children and abuse their spouse in these small towns. The police are always looking for people to turn over evidence on people that are in jail, the police will make the people that turn over on people a "jail house deal". If the information that they get helps them get the person they want or charges against that person they will go to the prosecutor and heal them and work out a deal for their "informant". They also make sure that the informant is paid out of funds that are set aside for investigations, because they are "saving the county money", when in reality they are just doing the jobs of the police, and stopping them from doing what they are paid to do by the taxpayers. People realize every police department uses informants, but I have never seen a small town or county that is as lazy as the county that this crime took place in. Things are only getting worse around there, but there's nothing anyone can do. Billy's family called the FBI, the senator, the congressman, and the governor about the cover up, and how corrupt the county was. They even went as far as calling all the news outlets (television stations and newspapers) to try to get justice, a few news articles and that's all that ever came from it. Several people called and emailed Nancy Grace, but she never once contacted them back. It was as if nothing ever happened in the sleepy little town. Jeremy attacking his wife and family and got more media attention that Billy's murder. Basically the family was told that bad things happen to bad people (Billy was anything but a bad person, he would give you the shirt off his back). While the investigation was still going on, there was another murder that took place in the county. Those people were arrested, charged with murder, and convicted. Do you know what the difference was? These people were not related to a police officer, and it involved drugs.  So while Billy's murderer is walking free the police are more interested in people using and dealing drugs. The police do not care if they ever finally charge or arrest Herman for the murder of Billy. The reason they will never do anything to Herman is because they protect their own, and since his last name is Gehl they consider him one of theirs because of his dad and uncle, who were both police officers.
