Charmaine's POV
I settled into the couch, phone pressed to my ear, and let out a deep sigh. Anna answered on the first ring, and I launched into the story, telling her all about Luca and Lila. "So, I'm sitting there, trying to make small talk, and I realize that Lila is his girlfriend," I said, trying to keep the frustration out of my voice. "And she's gorgeous, Anna. Like, really really pretty."
Anna's voice was calm and rational on the other end of the line. "What's wrong with him having a girlfriend?" she asked, and I felt a surge of defensiveness. "He's not supposed to have a girlfriend," I said, trying to explain. "I mean, I know we just met, but...I don't know, it just feels like he's not supposed to be with someone else."
