Princess Charlotte

Chapter 1 I woke up at the sound of some loud noise, panting heavily. I was drenched in my own sweat with quivering body. I looked at every where with terror filled eyes confusingly. "what kind of dream is this" I said to my self trying to catch my breath. The whole palace was unusually very quiet but I could hear some voices that comes up loudly as if responding to a question. what could possibly be going on?. I was still in my state of confusion when my personal body guard (Louis) rushed into my room without knocking or opening the door with some respect. "Your majesty there is..." "shut up" I shouted without letting her finish. Louis and I have known each other since our childhood, when she moved into the palace with her father who was the chief of warriors at the time. aside being my guard she is my best friend, we talk to each other about everything. Due to our intimate relationship she no longer regards my status in the palace. She only shows me respect when we are with my father. I have tried drawing a boundary between us but to no avail, we just love each other so much. "What made you think you can just barge into my room without knocking?" I asked, with anger and fear clearly evident in my face and voice. Louis looked at me surprisingly. she wanted to move closer but her body won't let her, she was too shocked at my reaction. "Charlotte, you don't seem ok what is the matter." she finally found her voice after staring confusedly at me for minutes. She came and sat next to me on my bed putting her hand on my shoulder. I just glared at her lost in my thoughts. The glare in my eyes quickly turned into a weak and helpless look. I started crying. She held me close with my head on her chest and her right arm over my shoulders. She gently rubbed my back which was covered with my waist length, thick and very dark hair. "It's going to be ok, everything will be just fine... Shh.. it's ok" she consoled. It wasn't long before we heard another shout from outside. we stood up with a startle, I quickly wore my dress and we ran out together. There was a little crowd which formed what looked like a C with my father and his queen standing on the palace balcony. The queen stopped being a mother to me since she got pregnant with her first child. A human was lying on the ground but I couldn't see him properly because the balcony where I and my family stood is about one meter from the ground where the crowd stood. I took a closer look at the person lying on the ground with the royal physician and his assistant attending to him. Fear gripped me, it was the same man I saw in my dream. "Louis it's him, it's him oh my God" my hands flew to my mouth in shock. I didn't realize I was screaming not until Louis shook me. Everyone's attention has directed to me. I stared at everyone with my terror filled eyes. I could feel my legs shaking. I came back to reality when I heard my father's stentorian voice. "it's who? speak up, do you know him?". my father asked I wanted to say something but the words wouldn't come out. "Bring him into the palace, everyone go back to your homes. It is obvious that evil is roaming our kingdom, proving the necessity of been alert at all times and cost. I will send warriors to all the entry points of Dochen because if security measures are not well plotted the next victim might be one of us". My father's voice went on and on but I was too lost in my thoughts to hear further. "Charlotte let's go inside" Louis held my hand motioning for us to go back inside the palace. "Oh, ye.. yes" I said as if just coming out of a pool lengthy thought. Louis looked at me confusingly as though I needed saving from derangement.
