Chapter 5

DANIS POV

Bates and I have decided to take the day to ourselves, we’ve been so busy we haven’t really been able to enjoy each other since we got mated. Well with him hating me in the beginning and all. He woke me up with breakfast in bed and gave me a massage, I am going to take him on a hike to a secret place I’ve liked to run away to since I was a child. I’ve never shown it to anyone before but it’s very secluded. “Mmm I’d like to just stay in bed with you all day.” He moans pulling me into his arms and smelling my hair. “Come onnnn it’s a long hike but once you get there you’ll love it!” I give him a grin and pull his arm. “Batesy I was looking for youuuu.” Ciera’s high pitched voice rang through the front hall when she spotted us. She was wearing tight jean shorts and a crop top so short it should be considered a bralette. She eyes me up and down but doesn’t acknowledge me, does she still think she has a chance? “Bates I need to talk to you.” She whines while he ignores her and tries to keep walking. “Bates and I are busy today, maybe when we get back.” I reply coldly and let him pull me out the front door, his thoughts towards her are not pleasant.

I take him along the twisted woodsy paths to my spot. “How much farther?” He asks taking a water break. “About a quarter of a mile.” I say tossing my hair up. He groans and throws his head back. “Only for you.” He says and takes another sip. “Oh don’t be a baby.” I tease and continue walking. Finally we reach it, my secret swimming hole, surrounded by trees and vines with warm water so clear you can see the bottom. It was almost like it was out of a fairy tale, completely untouched by anyone but me. “This place is beautiful.” Bates says with a childlike wonderment in his voice, putting a hand on my waist. I nod and smile. “Lets go swimming.” I say taking off my shirt. “Huh? But we didn’t bring any swimsui- ohhhh.” He says catching my drift and quickly starts taking off his clothes. I undress and slide into the water careful not to let him see me. “Ah hiding are we?” He teases standing in front of me proudly with a devilish grin, my eyes widen in shock at his forearm sized member. Maybe I’m not ready for this. He follows me into the water and brings me into his arms. I look up at him nervously and he smiles. “Don’t be scared baby.” He whispers tucking my hair behind my ear, he slowly brings his lips to mine and kisses me passionately, the feeling of our lips touching feels like fireworks.

I pull him closer and wrap my arms around his neck, he grabs my waist and picks me up. Both Nexus and Daxon are begging to get out together so Bates and I decide to let them have their time. Now that they can communicate they’re having the time of their lives. They run through the fields chasing each other and playfully fighting, feeling Nexus’ joy at the interaction makes me irrationally happy. I fade to the back when they mate with each other, feels private, like a just them thing. “Nexus? May I come back, it’ll be dinner soon and I’m starving.” I say timidly trying not to bother her. “Of course Dani, Daxon and I will have eternity together, I’m sorry.” She says apologetically. “Nonsense, it was wonderful letting you two have your time.” I feel her appreciation as she lets me shift back and watch Bates as he does as well. We grab our clothes and throw them on and I smile at him. “What?” He asks grinning. “Last one back to the packhouse is a rotten egg.” I stick my tongue out and let him get a good head start. I take off after him and hear him call out no fair after I speed by him with ease. I wait propped against the side of the house as he finally catches up to me, he crosses his arms and I smile. “You are a dirty, dirty cheater, worse than Carter.” I laugh and give him a kiss. “And you’re a rotten egg.” I tease and he grabs my waist and tickles me, making me squeal as the dinner bell goes off.

“You guys marked each other!” My mom exclaims loudly and kisses both our cheeks. Uncle Brion slaps a hand on Bates back as he takes his seat. “Atta boy son, I’m happy for you guys.” He grins and my dad hugs me. “Oh my not so little girl, I’ve lived for this day.” He kisses the top of my head and pulls out my chair for me. “Thank you dad.” I sit down blushing and pull my hair behind me. “Well training tonight will be interesting, from now on you’ll come to your true full power, slowly but surely.” My mom gives me a smile and a wink, I take a deep breath. “So when Bates and I marked each other I basically leveled a whole landscape.” I force out trying not to go into too much detail about my earth shattering orgasm. “Oh?” My mom says biting into a breadstick. “That’s interesting we’ll have to move our training to outdoors and see if we can tap more into that.” I nod and dig into my dinner. I’m starving, we skipped lunch and I haven’t eaten since early. “Lotta exercise today you two?” My dad teases and I blush trying to gulp down my food. “We skipped lunch.” I say simply and my dad nods. “Skipped lunch to…” Uncle Brion continues on winking at my dad. “You guys don’t wanna know.” Bates answered taking a big bite out of his steak.

After dinner my mom takes me out to the back field and stands across from me 15 feet away. “Now that feeling when you guys mark each other, I want you to tap into it, remember how you felt.” I nod and and think about that moment with Bates the love and excitement flowing through me at the moment. I feel the air pulse around me and I focus on every sense I felt at that moment. My mom gasps as a nearby tree crashes down. “Amazing baby!” She says clapping. “Lets see if you can do multiple.” We go again and again I knock down more and more trees and sit down sighing. “Okay honey before we run out of trees and your father kills us let’s call it a night.” I giggle and give her a hug. “You’re doing amazing.” She said giving me a kiss on the head. “Thank you mom.” I grin. “Maybe you’ll gain a power that makes you taller.” She teases and I pout my height is a sensitive issue everyone else in the pack is 5’7 and over and I’m stuck down here at 5’3.

“Dani can’t help that she got the short end of the stick.” My dad jokes from behind us, Uncle Brion and Beta Henry join him chuckling on the back patio with a bottle of whiskey, Bates, Alex and Carter follow them out with glasses. I roll my eyes at him and fold my arms across my chest. “Very funny dad.” I say stomping over and plopping down on the porch swing. My mom joins me and I lay my head on her shoulder as she gently swings us, Bates offers me a sip of his whiskey and I smell it and turn up my nose, alcohol has never intrigued me the smell alone makes me sick. “Not much of a drinker, huh Dani?” Carter asks and I shake my head. “No I just can’t get paste the smell.” He raises a glass and grins. “Here’s to having a designated driver every time we go out boys.” I laugh at them as they cheers and Bates throws me a wink motioning me over to sit on his lap, I crawl on him and lean my head back on his chest. The smell of the whiskey is making me feel slightly sick but his scent is so intoxicating, it doesn’t matter much.

“Surprisee everyone’s favorite Conri sister came earlyy!” Jill squeals surprising us all coming through the back door. I grin and stand up and she runs over to me. “Daniii I missed you.” She squeezes me in a big hug and pulls back looking me up and down. “This look on you, is killer you look f*****g hot and that is whyy.” She says turning to look at Bates. “My brother is the luckiest man in the world.” I giggle. “Did you cut your hair Jill it looks so good!” I say gently tugging at the ends of her wild brown hair she nods grinning. “Dani, I have much to tell you, let’s find go to your room after and catch up.” I nod and let her greet everyone else. “Bates I don’t know how you even landed a girl like Dani, I would’ve rejected you if I were her.” She says sticking her tongue out at him and he grins. “Actually it was quite the opposite at first.” Uncle Brion says and Jill punches Bate in the arm. “YOU ALMOST REJECTED HER.” She yells punching him a few more times, for good measure of course. He rubs his arm and looks down nodding. “Oh you just get more stupid the older you get.” She scoffs and offers me her hand. “Well if you don’t mind, I’m going to steal Dani for a few and catch up with her.” They all nod and we wish each other goodnight.

I follow her to my room and we slide on my bed. “Oh gosh Dani I have to tell you, I found my mate.” I raise my eyebrows at her, she was just freshly 18 only a few weeks older than me. “Thats good?” I ask eyeing her sad expression and she falls on her back. “I guess I mean, we love each other, we want to be together but, it’s complicated.” She turns and looks at me and I nod. “Are you going to tell me who?” I ask and she smiles and blushes. “It’s Carter.” When I say my eyes couldn’t open any wider, they almost popped out of my head. “Carter?!” I hissed and she nodded slowly. “My brother would kill him, so we’ve been keeping it a secret since my 18th birthday, I mean, I’ve always been attracted to him, he’s hot! Shaggy blonde hair, brown puppy dog eyes, ugh. We’ve been sneaking around for weeks! That’s why I came early, I needed him.” I nod understandingly, the girls always told me how protective their brother was of them, and how he had a rule that none of his friends were allowed to touch his sisters. And although I’ve yet to witness it, I’ve been told he has a terrible temper. I can’t even imagine how he would feel if one of them mated with one of the girls. “I could try to talk to him without ratting you guys out.” I say and she looks at me pleadingly and smiles. “Oh Dani, I would soo appreciate that, not being able to be public with Carter is killing me!” She exclaims and dramatically pretends to be dead, I laugh at her and shake my head. Carter and Jill, I can’t believe it. “Soo tell me more details about you and Carter.” I ask and poke her with my foot. “So picture this right? It’s my 18th birthday, Carter busts through the door and we both secretly realize what happened. So I find an excuse to go and talk to him outside and I just jump him. We end up having s*x right then and there against his truck outside. We’ve been sneaking around ever since, we don’t want to reject each other we just know Bates is going to be so mad.” I laugh of course thats how it happened. It’s just so Jill.

“Bates will be mad about what?” Bates walks in looking at us curiously. “Um Jill was just saying she knew you’d be mad about all the Alpha’s here trying to win me over and how you’re probably glad most of them have left.” I cover and he narrows his eyes at me. “Mhm.” He says looking between me and Jill. I know Jill is an awful liar and I beg her not to open her mouth at all. “Yeah totally, exactly that.” She squeaks and I know its all over. “You guys are lying. Tell me the truth right now, what would I be mad about?” He asks sounding irritated. I look at Jill and raise my eyebrows and she nods. “Jill and Carter are mates.” I blurt out and Bates face drops. “They’re what.” He hisses balling his fist, Jill stands up looking guiltily at the floor. “Carters my mate.” I’m actually a little scared of the look on Bates face right now. “That fucker.” He growls and turns around, Jill and I give each other and oh no look and chase after him. “CARTER YOU HAVE SOME NERVE!” Bates yells pinning him against a wall and Carter catches Jills eyes a look of understanding washes over him. “Hey man listen, it’s not our fault it’s the moon goddess, we love each other.” He says and Bates pushes his arm into him harder, he looks like he’s about to throw a punch and I get a bit angry, who is he to deny the moon goddesses design? “BATES YOU STOP RIGHT NOW!” I yell at him, making our parents and Alex who were enjoying the show, jump and he looks back at me in shock letting go of Carter. I walk up to him and pull him away from Carter, Jill runs up to him and wraps her arms around him. I step on my tiptoes and grab Bates ear. “How dare you threaten the man that loves your sister, I understand its uncomfortable because she’s your little sister and that’s your best friend but put yourself in their shoes. How would you feel if that was us and my big brother tried to keep us apart.” I scold him and he drops his head. “Bad, I would feel bad, I wouldn’t be able to handle it.” I nod and let go of his ear. “Go apologize to them both.” I say pointing at them and he nods and apologizes hugging them both. “Hell yeah Dani commanding your Alpha already, you’re gonna kill it as a Luna.” Alex gleams high fiving me. “I’m happy for you guys.” Uncle Brion say’s standing up and he shakes Carters hand. “Thank you sir.” Carter says bowing his head. Jill squeals and kisses Carter then comes and hugs me. “Thank you, thank you, thank you, I love you Dani!!” She holds me so tight, I think she might break a rib. “Of course Jill, I love you too.” I say smiling. “Great job Luna Dani.” Uncle Brion grins at me and gives me a salute. “Thank you for putting me in my place before I lost it my love.” Bates murmurs kissing the top of my head.
