Chapter 4

DANIS POV

“Remember how I said I made a lot of mistakes? This is my biggest one.” Bates whispers as I sneer at the tall dirty blonde running up to him. “Ciera.” He says placing a finger on her forehead to keep her from hugging him. She frowns at him playfully. “Bates baby did you miss me? Lets go to your room and have fun for old times sake.” She moved his finger and stuck it in her mouth, he quickly ripped it out. “Ciera it was years ago, I’ll tell you now what I told you then, I do not like you. Get over it.” I clear my throat and raise my eyebrows at the two of them. “Hi you must be an Omega here, I’m Ciera, Bates future Luna.” Bates slaps his head in his hands, I decide to have some fun with them. “Yes, I work here in the kitchen, would you and your boyfriend like some lunch, I know you must be starved from traveling.” She smiles at me and nods looking at Bates who looks at me with a glare. He makes sure to touch my arm so I know just what he’s thinking. I giggle to myself as I make them a couple sandwiches. “Oh thank you… I never caught your name.” Ciera says as I place their sandwiches in front of them. “Oh Danielle, pleasure to meet you.” She nods and takes a bite.

“This is delicious, anyways as I was saying you just reject your mate, because you and I both know I am the best possible choice for a Luna.” Bates doesn’t say anything as she continues on and on, he just glares at me while he eats his sandwich. “Danielle.” My mother calls walking up to us. “Oh what is going on here?” She asks when she reaches the table. “Luna Helene thank you for having me.” Ciera said bowing her head. “I’m Ciera Bates future Luna.” I almost crack up and look at my mom with my eyebrows raised. “His future Luna.” I said stifling laughter. “Oh pleasure, and here I thought Bates would take my daughter as his Luna seeing as she’s his mate.” My mom smiles joining me on my joke. Ciera nods. “Yes but Bates has decided to reject her unfortunately and take me as his chosen mate instead.” My mom shakes her head and starts tearing up. She loves dramatics. “Oh God my poor, poor daughter what will she do when she finds out? Bates how could you? I thought, oh goodness I have to go sit down.” I start snickering, I can’t help it the look on Cieras face as my mom plays through her scene is too much. “Is seeing your Luna in distress funny to you?” My mom pleads in a dramatic voice, I shake my head biting my lip. “No Luna.” My mom stands straight up and fixes her dress. “That’s no mom to you honey, don’t call me Luna.” She wipes her fake tears away and looks at Ciera, placing a hand on my shoulder. “Ciera have you met my daughter Danielle, Bates mate and future Luna of your pack?” I smile at her and give her a wink, the way her jaw is almost to the table, and her eyes have all but popped out of her head is perfect.

“I- I- you- you- you what?” She stuttered standing up as Bates stood up and placed an arm around my shoulder. “Yes Ciera officially meet your future Luna.” She whipped her head between us and Bates leans down to my ear. “I am going to get you for this.” He whispers as Ciera just looks dumbfounded and walks away. “Oh I love playing games with you guys, that was fun who’s next?” My mom asks clapping her hands together as we watch Ciera leave the dining hall. “You did perfect mom.” I say giving her a high five. “Hopefully that will teach her.” Bates sighs shaking his head. “But did you really have to make me have lunch with her.” He groans and I nod. “That was your punishment.” I give him a soft kiss on the lips. “What got into Ciera?” Alex asks coming in with Carter, Bates tells them what I did. “That’s perfect, oh s**t, and Luna Helene participated? Oh that’s too good.” Alex says laughing and Carter nods his head. “Dani you’re a hell of a girl, you handled her perfectly Ciera hates being embarrassed.” I giggle. “I kind of had a feeling she did, plus I wanted to punish Bates.” They shake their heads at me laughing. “It’s what he deserves.” Alex says patting Bates on the back. “Danielle before I leave you I wanted to say meet me in my mediation room after dinner we’ll start training.” My mom says and I nod to her. “Training?” Bates asked and I nod. “She wants to help me with my powers.” Alex and Carter look at each other. “POWERS?!” They say simultaneously. “Guys I’ll explain on the way, we also have training to get to.” They nod at him and I wave them goodbye. “Daniiii.” Kendall squeals walking up to me and plopping down on one of the chairs. “Hey Ken.” I say picking up the sandwich mess from Ciera and Bates. “All these new men coming in and still no mate.” She whines and I inwardly roll my eyes. “There will be plenty more coming.” I mummer as I wipe down the table. “You’re right, if not I’m giving up hope.” She could not be any more dramatic. “I will personally see to it that every unmated male wolf in this pack meets you.” I say sarcastically and she grins up at me. “Oh would you?” She asks and I see that it has gone right over her head so I just nod. “Lets go to the rec room so i can wreck you in uno.” I laugh at my own dumb joke and she rolls her eyes and giggles. “Okay okay.” She says standing up and follows me upstairs.

BATES POV

I’m impressed by how great the warriors are at fighting. A few of them even handed Alex and Carters asses to them. “Hey man you’re an absolute beast.” The guy I was sparring with, Julien? Says shaking my hand. “You almost had me a couple times, you’re a force.” He grins at me and slicks his blonde hair back. “I try, I’m a premature wolf so I had to train for a bit to get my strength up, now I can hold my own against the best of them.” I give him a nod of approval. “That’s awesome really, you seem like you’ve got a good head on your shoulders.” Alex and Carter come up to me panting. “Yo these warriors are no joke over here, we’re gonna have to step our game up.” Alex says wiping sweat from his brow and I laugh. “You’ll have to if one of you want to become my beta or else Julien here is gonna take the title right from under you.” Julien laughs and holds his hands up. “You guys can train with me more if you want, I train in the morning, after lunch, after dinner, before bed.” He trails off and smiles. “You’re serious?” Carter asks, this guy was intense, Julien nods. “I’m still unmated so, I have to take out my energy somehow. I refuse to sleep with any of the girls here in the pack, because it’s like you sleep with one, you sleep with them all.” I nod, I know how that goes. “You’re a good kid, you should hang with us sometime, well when you’re not training.” I say giving Julien a soft smile and he nods. “Yeah man, that’d be really cool, hey by the way, I’m really happy you’re mated to Dani.” I give him a grin. “Me too. Catch you later.” He nods and runs out the door of the training room.

“So what are you going to do about whole beta thing?” Alex asks as we walk out and I shrug. “I’m not sure.” He nods and Carter slings his arm around me. “I’m not saying I’m the best for the job but I’m just saying Alex is the worst.” Alex playfully pushes him off of me and I laugh. “Carter you don’t even know how to use a microwave, nevertheless be a beta.” It’s true, Carter may be stronger but Alex is way more responsible. “Listen I still have a few weeks and I haven’t decided yet, no need to fight you two.” I wave my hand dismissively at them. “Okay all I’m saying is you appoint a guy who can’t figure out which way is left without using his fingers over me, I’m taking it personally.” Alex says and I laugh.

“Oh. My. God.” My eyes pop in horror as Kendall looks me up and down. I just walked out of Dani’s bathroom in just a towel and I wasn’t expecting her to be in here. “Here it is.” Dani says walking out of her closet holding a tiny little dress. Her eyes narrow as she observes the scene. “Bates what are you doing in just a towel right now?” She asks and I eye the dress she’s holding. “What are you doing owning something like that?” Dani puffs her lips out and looks at me. “Touchè” I pick up my bag of clothes and sneak back into the bathroom. I throw on some sweats and t-shirt, and look in the mirror on the way out. “Lookin good big man” Daxon says and I grin. “So that dress.” I say as Kendalls laying across Dani’s bed with Dani at her desk chair scrolling on her phone. She rolls her eyes at me and sighs. “Your sister made me buy that a long time ago and I was just giving it to Kendall.” I sigh and put my bag down. “It was Ren wasn’t it.” She shakes her head. “Heather.” I take back every nice thing I’ve ever said about Heather. “Pft and I said she’d make a great female Alpha.” Dani laughs and almost falls out of her chair. “I love them but all of them would be awful Alphas.” She says in between laughs and I join her. I actually spy a picture of them all together on her desk. I miss my sisters and my mom but they would be here soon. I pick up the photo and raise my eyebrow Dani looks so young. “I think Ren would be the best out of all of them.” Kendall pipes in and Dani starts dying again. “She would be the worst of the three.” I shake my head and chuckle. This is a big argument in my family, it started at dinner one night when I simply asked if I died which one of them would step up to become our packs first female Alpha and they’ve been arguing over it ever since. One thing everyone but Ren can agree on is that she would make the worst one.

DANIS POV

After dinner my mom leads me down to her meditation room in the basement, this is where she would train and do yoga, her space away from everyone. Usually I’m not allowed down here no one is unless invited. I feel a little out of place and uncomfortable the ‘I’m not supposed to be in here’ feeling still lingers even though I was personally invited. I stand stiff as a board staring at my mom as she moves things out of our way. “Dani please do loosen up, nothing going to pop out at you.” She giggles tossing a pillow into the corner. I try to relax my shoulders as she turns to face me. “Now there’s something I want to try, I’m going to come at you and I want you to close your eyes and try to picture me standing in front of you, see if you can see what I do before I make my moves.” I nod and do as I’m told, I focus on her scent as I can sense her in front of me. I can see her almost as if she were standing in front of me she goes to strike me and I move but too slowly catching a punch to the arm but it doesn’t hurt, I easily shake it off but I’m having trouble dodging her next moves. Her speed and agility are amazing. She catches me a few more times and steps back, I open my eyes and look at her. “You can see me, see what I’m doing but I want you to really focus and try to see if you can see my attacks before they happen.” I close my eyes again and focus harder.

After a few hours and a couple of bruises later, I can finally see what my moms next moves are before she strikes. It’s almost like I can see into the future a little bit. She claps her hands and puts them on my shoulders, I grin at her opening my eyes. “That’s amazing honey, the only other who can do that is Vladimir of the 9. You truly are remarkable, I wanted to see if you could and you surprised me.” Her eyes are sparkling with pride. “Thank you mom, I didn’t think I was going to for a while but you taught me to never give up.” She kisses my nose and nods. “Well I think we did a lot tonight, same time tomorrow?” She asks and I nod. “Goodnight mom, I love you.” She starts putting her room back together and sits on her meditation pillow. “I love you too sweety.” I focus on Bates scent and I see him sitting in the rec room with Alex and Carter playing on a game system, until I can feel my body materializing and it doesn’t feel as weird as it did the first time.

“Woah what the f**k!” Alex yelps as I appear beside them and Bates chuckles. “Hey man, powers remember?” He asks and Alex stares at me and nods. “Aw man Dani you made me lose.” Alex frowns at the screen and Carter laughs. “Can’t let anything distract you when you’re playing with me.” Carter says beating Alex and Bates in a shooter game. “That’s because you cheat.” Bates pouts folding his arms. “I do not, I’m just superior.” Bates looks at me and pats the couch between him and Alex. “He totally cheats.” He says wrapping an arm around me and Alex nods. “Like a motherfucker.” I giggle and pick up a controller. “Okay Carter lets go.” I say and he grins and nods. “f**k yeah Dani, don’t get upset like these guys when you lose though.” I shake my head and smile. “Oh you totally used your powers.” Carter groans as I beat him for the 4th time. “Did not.” I tease and wink at Bates, I mean I did a little bit, I was just practicing what I just picked up on with my mom. “Now who’s being a sore loser?” Bates asked elbowing Carter and he groans. “Okay that was pretty awesome Dani, you kicked my ass.” I grin at him stretching. “He deserved to be humbled.” Alex says chuckling as Carter shoots him a glare. “Soooo Dani we were wondering, does your mom does she like, the whole blood drinking thing how does that work?” Carter asks and Bates elbows him. “It’s okay.” I say placing a hand in Bates arm. “The thing about vampires is that they can get by, without drinking human blood but it’s hard, they aren’t as strong the 9 greats however, refuse to feast and kill humans so they have deals worked out with organizations who are so infatuated with vampires, they willing donate blood, so that the 9 greats and vampires who strive to live like them can be strong without causing any harm. Like millions of people donate every so often, they actually have an overflow right now.” The boys nod. “That’s actually pretty cool and they can’t go out in sunlight?” Alex asks and I shake my head. “They can it just severely weakens them, it brings their power level down to human level and they aren’t much help during the day, but they can go out and enjoy the sun, it’s just dangerous to them so they prefer not to, you guys don’t know a lot about vampires, do you?” I ask and they all shake their heads.

“Okay so the 9 great powers, Vladimir, his brother Viltrum, Elina, Albion, Eloise, Edmund, Jerman, Josias and my mom. They all have powers you wouldn’t catch a regular vampire with, some can shapeshift, premonition, resurrection, some can heal others, lots of really cool shit.” The boys listen on in awe. “They’re a lot cooler than I thought.” Carter mumbles. “Oh! Viltrum can make things explode with his mind!” I say and they all look at me. “What?!” They ask and I nod. “What can you do?” Alex asks. “I can see what people are thinking when I touch them, see into any room by scent, and appear in that room when I focus on it, sense people who are around me, and newly see what people are going to do before they do it.” Carter gasps. “I knew you were cheating.” I laugh. “I didn’t!” I exclaim and he shakes his head. “Okay you guys sit on that, I’m taking Dani to bed.” Bates says and picks me up from the sofa. The boys make fake moans as Bates carries me out of the room making me blush.
