Nari got discharged from the hospital to attend her mother's funeral while her dad, who was watching from his hospital bed had was give a very little sedative to keep him calm and not aggravate his condition.
Throughout the day young Nari's mind was flooded with memories of her mom and their special moments, infact Nari was asking God why he couldn't just also have made her mother better like he did with her dad, because who else is going to be her bestfriend and make her chocolate chip cookies to cheer her up when she's sad or just goofy dance and sing with her in their living room ?.
The thought of all the things she's going to miss doing with her mom made her immediately break down and uncontrollably sob, lead her maternal grandmother to walk over to her and sweep her up in her arms and softly tell her, "your mommy may not be here anymore my sweet Nari but I promise you'll always have me no matter what".
Nari continues to sob until the priest finally signals that the service was about to start, and her grandmother whispers in her ear, "lets go the service is about to start", and Nari gets up with her head hung low as they walk to the front of the church and take a seat.
As they were sitting there Nari couldn't believe her mom was laying in that brown wooden box never to wrap her up in a thight hug or flash her that beautiful dimpled smile of hers when she tells her a silly joke.
The service was a somber one especially when they played the slide show of pictures of her mom from when she was a child up until the very last picture she took with Nari at her ballet recital before they left for this trip which made Nari cry and wish they had never came on this stupid trip then everything in het life would still have been normal and perfect.
The service concluded and Nari thought they were going to the graveyard but then heard the priest mention that the family has requested to have a private cremation ceremony leaving her confused, especially since her paternal grandparents walked out of the church and got into the car and drove off leaving Nari with her maternal grandparents.
Meanwhile back at the hospital Nari's father was going mad that no one informed him of the cremation as he thought his wife would be burried on the Bianco familia burial plot, but it would seem during the time the two families were arranging everything Nari's maternal grandparents insisted that they wanted to have their daughter cremated so they can fly back with her ashes to Korea, infact they even wanted Nari and her baby brother to go back with them, since they felt the two of them were the only pieces they have left of their beautiful daughter, but Nari's paternal grandfather got lawyers involved which sent a petition to the court to revisit the matter of Nari and her brother once Nari's father was fully healed, leaving her maternal grandparents to return to Korea with only her mother's ashes and a vow to return for their grandchildren.
The cremation ceremony took place, but Nari's grandparents' relationship was tense, and they barely spoke to each other afterward. Meanwhile over the months that followed Nari's father slowly healed and during his physical therapy sessions he also showed great improvement in his mobility and his ability to do things for himself like eating on his own, ect.
Meanwhile, her baby brother ate well and was making strides in his growth to the point where he was released into the care of their paternal grandparents, just like her. Then almost nine and a half months after the accident her father got discharged and returned back to their home town where doctors, physical therapists and occupational therapists will continue to care for him at home, which is was decide upon his insistance after he told them he wants to go home and be with his kids.
Nari's dad came home and met his son for the first time and literally broke down and cried uncontrollably wishing his wife atleast had a chance to see and hold their son before she left this world, but unfortunately that was never to be hence he was even more determined to get back to his old self and take care of his kids.
Every day that passed he worked at getting better, and days turned into months then months turned into years and as promised Nari's dad really did return to his old self and both Nari and her brother grew. Although after the accident though Nari's father could perform neurosurgery and more which required very precise technique, which he lost in the accident but luckily the university wanted to use his skills and offered him a position as a professor, which he obviously took.
The new position was an adjustment for Nari's father and although he was a professor in Neurosurgery he still worked hard with his physical therapist and occupational therapist to get his surgical skills back, and it seemed to pay off as well because after only three years as a professor Nari's dad quit to return to the profession he so loved which was neurosurgery although he wasn't chief of the neurosurgery department anymore but he was just happy to be back doing what he loved, but the hospital admired his skill and determination and pretty soon he was back to being chief of the neurosurgery department.
Nari was happy for her dad and their relationship was good, infact she even kept intouch with nurse Valencia who regularly checked in on her and her brother, which is actually a blessing in disguise because the day of Nari's thirteenth birthday and six years after the accident and losing her mother her paternal grandparents arranged a small dinner for the family to celebrate but that was also a way for her dad to introduce his new fiancé which his been keeping secret from the kids, especially Nari who he didn't want to upset but his fiance 'Christiana' , a nurse in the neurosurgery ward who apparently grew tired of being hidden.
