Something was wrong.
I knew it the moment I realized we weren’t heading home.
Diana had turned off the main road and was driving in the opposite direction from Jamie’s house. At first, I tried to convince myself there was a reasonable explanation.
Maybe she’d taken a wrong turn.
Maybe there was roadwork.
Maybe she was taking a shortcut.
But none of those explanations made sense.
I glanced at her.
Her hands were locked tightly around the steering wheel, her knuckles almost white. Her jaw was clenched, and she kept staring straight ahead.
She looked tense.
Not nervous.
Tense.
Like someone who knew exactly where she was going…
