CHAPTER 38The palace shook. Lothaire looked up and dodged a piece of ceiling as it crashed down and landed a hair’s breadth away from him.
“It’s our army,” the grand prince announced. “They’re sieging the city. The only way you’ll survive this is if you release us!”
“And how did they know to siege the city?” Sinnafain asked.
“Our immortal protectors would have informed them,” said another Avadierish.
“Withdraw,” the grand prince commanded, “and hand the country over to us. It’s the only way the People of the Phoenix will survive this now that you no longer have the Phoenix Queen as your protector!”
The unicorns held their heads high. “No,” Estar said.
Outside, rocks and trees rose from the royal forest and headed towards the trebuchets attacking the palace.
