After testifying as the sole witness to her own mother's murder, Wednesday Gray knew her life would never again be the same.

With the help of the Boston Police Department, and one protective and honourable young officer Rhys Melrose, Wednesday was placed into witness protection for own safety, and now lives as Elliot Walker.

But when her mother's killer, Liam Harlow, is unexpectedly released after serving less than half of his sentence, Wednesday's quiet and protected life will be turned upside down, and her courage will be put to the test.

Liam Harlow is cold, calculating, and hell bent on exacting revenge against the girl who's testimony put him away.

But what Liam didn't count on was the steadfast commitment to Wednesday's safety on the part of Melrose, nor the sheer courage and wit of Wednesday herself.

What will follow is the ultimate game of cat and mouse between Liam and Wednesday, and Liam is determined there can only be one winner.

Will Liam finally get his vengeance? Or has he underestimated Wednesday Gray? For as he soon will find out, he may not be the only one seeking revenge.....

Prologue - Spiders and Flies
They say the world is filled with all sorts. They say that the human experience is vast, with infinite possibility. They say that each journey is unique, that there is only one you. People take comfort in these claims. They feel special. They feel secure in their absolute mediocrity. They are important and needed, after all. But none of that is true. There are only two types of people in the world. There are flies. Flies are everywhere. You are probably a fly. I mean you no offence, truly. There is nothing wrong with being a fly. In fact, for the balance to remain, for the illusion of society to continue undisturbed, it is imperative that the majority of you be flies. It is the natural order of things. You buzz about your day, looking for food, looking to breed, drifting aimlessly along the breeze. You do the right things. You live, you die, and only the other flies immediately around you even notice. You did good, fly. But then there are the spiders. If you are a spider, you will not have much company among the flies. If you are a spider, you will get no comfort buzzing about your day. You are unfortunate. Satisfaction with the mediocre is not your happy lot in this life. No, you, as a spider, are destined to a life alone, in the shadows. You will have to orchestrate your own life. You will have to spin webs. You will have to catch flies. It is the natural order of things.
