Chapter One: Tyrant who?
“Gather your best warriors and surround the northern border towards the Black Vigil pack. Remember to be aware and on the lookout, that pack is the most ruthless around and make sure everyone knows the plan; we cannot afford any slip ups," I lowly ordered the warlock in front of me. He nodded stiffly and scurried off to do as I requested. "Midnight?" someone called. I turned around and saw a petite woman, with auburn hair and brown eyes, standing with a plate of food. I looked around to make sure no one was to overhear our conversation before I whined, "Mom," as she came closer with a plate of lasagna in hand. "Shut up and eat," she scolded me. I was about to object but seeing her eyes change into Violet's, her inner witch's, eyes shut me up so I scarfed down all the food and shoved the plate back to her. "The witches are ready. We're getting prepared to attack some vampires that are making their way to the coven mansion. If everything goes well, we'll have them surrounded and killed before they make it to the cabin a few kilometres from the border," I shared while wiping my mouth. "I'm happy you are taking care of my coven but baby remember to be careful. You aren't enhanced-" "Mom I'll be fine," I cut her off putting my mask back on. "I need to go change into my normal clothes. I don't want other packs and covens to know Midnight is here," I winked. She just silently nodded and retreated into the mansion as I followed behind her. I knew I was too young and too human but I was careful in every way. Now, all I needed was to make sure no one knew about my identity so I climbed up the back wall of the house into my room and changed into something more Jade-like. I put on a navy tank top and black sweat pants and made my way to the area we said we were to gather before the attack. You see, our coven mansion was in the middle of a large maze-like territory thus making any intruders take time in trying to find us, automatically giving us the upper hand. The earth bending witches here used magic to monitor who or what was on our land. They made sure to report their findings back to me, their head warrior. "Jade! The assassin ordered for us to surround the northern border by the Black Vigil pack. He also warned us to be careful around their territory," the warlock from earlier informed me. "He told me already thank you Fred," I replied. I took in the troops that were gathered in groups of four of about fifteen each. "Soldiers!" I raised my hand which caused them to quieten down. "The vampires are starting to find their way into our coven so I need you to move fast and efficiently. Remember what the assassin taught you in training," I spoke. "Where is he?" one of the warriors shouted. "He is called the Midnight Assassin for a reason Ivy. Now let's go!" I yelled. It was amusing watching everyone refer to me as a he. If only they realized that he was a she and the she was me. The troops parted into their different routes as I took off for the higher trees around the area. I jumped from one tree to another and landed on the balls of my feet. I made sure to land on the branches without bark so that the enemy did not suspect that someone was watching from above. I also ensured to ask one of my witch friends to make some branches longer for easy access. I reached the area just as the group of about 30 vampires found themselves in a clearing. Just where we wanted them to be. "Okay, we've tried North, South and West directions so now we are going East. Maybe we'll get to the witches before the sun comes up," the leader ordered. The troops were waiting for my command and I could sense their anxiety and eagerness despite my human nature. The vampires started to make their way east but I dropped from my branch and landed in front of them, stopping them from moving farther. As soon as my feet hit the ground, I felt a pair of eyes looking my way but I chose to ignore it. It wasn't an immediate danger like the vampires were. I received a lot of feline hisses and snarls as I signalled for my troops to get closer, but still out of sight, with an eye roll. "What are you doing- you're human. Do you have a death wish or something, little girl?" a female asked, gaining her a few snickers here and there. "Now, now blood sucker. I just came here to ask why you are on my land. No need to be crude," I retorted. “Your land? Last I checked, the witches own this territory and not nosy, weak humans,” a male voiced. The tall, pale and skinny male with black shoulder length hair smirked at me. “Sir, I don’t think it would be wise to stay here for a  while. The sun’s coming up soon so can we just kill her and send the message to the Queen?” a shorter male voiced. I looked between all of them with a ghost smirk on my face and taunted, “So you claim you want to send a message to my mother but you aren’t even purebloods?”  Purebloods were vampires that belonged to covens. Their deity, ichor, cursed their species so that the vamps that run rogue and refuse to join a coven become vulnerable to sunlight. No it wasn't the glowing in the light curse, it was the burn to literal ashes curse. “How-” the girl from earlier started but i cut her off challenging, “You vampires are sloppy. He just made it obvious that time is against you,” I pointed to the smaller vampire. The other vampires snarled and hissed at him but he looked unfazed even in the slightest. “But my main question still stands. Why are you on my land?” I questioned. “This message is for the queen and no one else but I could give you a hint or two,” the female smirked. I raised my eyebrow, motioning her to continue.  “Your mother has a little bad blood with a very dangerous tyrant and he wants us to ‘deliver a message’ if you will,” she air quoted. “And I’m guessing it’s not a pleasant one seeing as all of you need to deliver it,” I pointed out. “You’re a fast little one aren’t you?” she mocked. “You do realise that all of you are going to be killed and making snide comments wouldn’t help your case,” I said. “Yeah right!” she hissed at me in a mocking manner and using her super speed, she came for me but it wasn't my first rodeo. As her head came for my neck, I grabbed her chin and snapped her neck before anyone realized what i was doing. The vampires in front of me looked baffled by the body that fell at my feet and that was our cue; strike when the iron is hot I remembered. I clapped my hands and my troops emerged smoothly; I commended them internally for their swiftness. The vampires looked around and saw that they were easily outnumbered but they did not back down even though they knew they weren't making it out alive. It was written all over their faces. "Let's have some fun shall we?" I asked no one in particular but as soon as I finished my statement, the witches were all over vampires tearing through them all. The eyes I felt earlier on were still watching me and as annoyed as I was, I had to finish off these creatures before I scooped out the eyes of the person staring at me. The vampire I recognized as the leader of this whole mission circled me with a smirk on his face. I did not bother to show my emotions as I put my hand on the pommel of the dagger in my sheath. The familiar engravings sent tingles through my fingers. I waited for him to make the first move and so he did. He made the obvious move of aiming for my neck so I dodged it and stabbed his abdomen. The dagger puncturing his internal organs, leaving him in pain. The metal of the dagger was weld from the fire of the strongest dragon, Bakunawa, in medieval times, making it deadly to any species, hindering their abilities to heal quickly. Normally, I would have killed him on the spot but I wanted to have fun with the brooding male vampire for a while. He yelled in pain all while hissing and held his stomach but quickly regained posture and lunged for my neck again. I could tell that he wasn't much of a fighter, just acting on instinct. I moved out of the way before he could touch me which made him fall into a tree. I chuckled and walked over to him. "Don't you think it would be easier if you surrendered? I mean, you're fighting a losing battle sir," I mocked. His eyes gathered the deceased vampires littered across the area and shone a bright red. He made a run for it but not before scarring my forearm with his claws. I hissed in pain and in the midst of the fighting, I heard a low growl. It might just be some wolves in the neighboring pack. I followed the injured vampire as he made his way to God knows where and just as he stopped and I caught up to him, I heard low growls surrounding us. I guess I made it out of my mother's territory.
