Liana's POV:
The Crimsonfall Pack was located in a huge field in the middle of the forest. The pack's boundary stretched far and wide, but the pack's residency was located in the middle of the field.
There were a few hundreds of houses for the pack members and at the heart of the village, was the pack house, where the top ranks of the pack lived.
Surrounding the pack village, was a huge wall that surrounded it entirely and had only one main gate which had a pathway that led directly to the main doors of the pack house. It was literally a small town in the middle of the forest.
At the gates of the wall, there were normally ten men standing guard. Around thirty were stretched out along the wall for patrol and another five at the far end of the wall where the woods were.
So, hearing this from Vera didn't add up since pack security was always a priority for Ronan. "Right now? You want us to escape? What if it's a trap?" I asked her. She scoffed and looked at me like I was the most retarded person she knew.
"A trap? You're telling me that Ronan called off almost all of his men just to set up a trap and see if you'll make a run for it? Let's be for real here, Ronan would never go to such extents just to try you. Not because you won't escape, but because you're not worth all that effort."
As much as her words burnt and rubbed me the wrong way, she was right. My only question was. ‘Why would Ronan make such a risky move?'
"Are you coming or not?" Vera asked, bringing me back from my thoughts.
For three years I've always wanted just the slightest opportunity to escape and it was right in front of me.
However, something didn't seem right.
"I need to know why the meeting is so important that he has summoned nearly all of his men.” I mumbled.
As expected, Vera's eyes went wide with shock and before she even got the chance to slap some sense into me, as I knew she would, I took off and headed to his huge meeting hall. In the back, I could hear her calling my name and cursing.
I allowed an opportunity slip between my fingers and if I did that for nothing, I only had myself to blame. When I got to the door of the conference room, I could hear the chattering of voices from the inside. I slowly pushed the door open, just enough for me to poke my head through and listen.
Luckily for me, all the warriors seemed to be so preoccupied with Ronan in the center of the room that they didn't notice me.
"The rumors are true. He is back and said to be wreaking havoc across the land!" A voice beamed from the crowd.
"I heard that he has already made his way across the valley and is now in the mountains." Another voice added.
"Rogues have been on the run for years but now, it's being said that they're seeking shelter from other packs. It's unheard off.” Another added.
I could tell that from their voices, they were all agitated and scared of whatever they were talking about. "Silence!" Ronan snapped, his voice bouncing on all four walls of the room sending the room into total silence.
I held my breath, not daring to be heard and noticed in any way. "None of the rumors have been confirmed that it is indeed him! As far as I know, it could be a group of Rogues spreading those rumors and doing the dirty work themselves!
However, we will not be caught with our guard down. In that case, I want the number of people patrolling the Pack boundary to be increased. Make sure that no one is caught slacking on their role, should you be found, your punishment would be horrendous." He added.
'Is this what I had chosen to risk for instead of taking my chances to escape? f**k me!' I shouted internally as the meeting sounded like any other meeting.
I was just about to turned when I heard Caspian, Ronan's Beta, ask. "What if it's actually true? What if the Wolf King is awake and on his way here?"
His question was met with an uneasy moment of silence. Through the crowd, I could barely see Ronan at the centre, but what I was sure was, he looked shaken by the question.
"If it's true and it's him, why do we have to worry? He is just but one man and we are an entire pack. How can a single man be a threat to an entire pack?" Ronan countered, trying his best to sound confident.
On top of the fact that I hated Ronan, I also knew him like the palm of my hand. When you live with someone for three years, it becomes impossible to just not know things about them that not a lot of people know. And as he spoke, I could tell that he was worried. As far as I knew, the title Wolf King that had just been mentioned by the men sounded familiar. I knew that it wasn't the first time hearing that name as it effortlessly gave me a shiver down my spine.
I needed to know who this Wolf King was, and why Ronan had called for an entire meeting just to talk about him. On top of that, I needed to understand why Ronan was worried of just one man who was coming for an entire pack.
I snuck my head out of the door and quickly dashed back to where I last left Vera. Surprisingly, she was still there and looked surprised to see me.
Before she even said anything, I asked her.
"Who or what is the Wolf King?" As soon as I asked, her face went pale with horror and her hands, which I had grabbed, went instantaneously cold.
