CH. 02- Blood Training

1913 Words
Chapter Two. Esme’s point of view. It is needless to say that training was a complete and utter waste of time. They were five total categories available in the training session…spoiler alert ,I did not excel in any of them. The five categories are Intellect ,enforcer , warrior ,tracker and blood. In all of the five tests I failed with flying colours and that is just me being generous. I am getting ahead of myself so I will retrace my steps and break down the full chain of events that led me to feeling like the failure that I am. All eyes flew to my direction as I entered the meeting hall obviously late which did not help my case at all. I could feel the burning stares following me as I walked down the walkway and headed for the back of the room to take a seat. I knew exactly what they thought of me ,I was weak and a useless orphan that the alpha felt pity for. It was no secret that I was not born into this pack and the looks I got from the pack members did little to help me forget. My grandmother had told me the story of how she trespassed into this pack seeking safety and a place to stay. It took the alpha some time to allow my grandmother and I to join the pack but they eventually stuck a deal. Years back there was a brewing war between supernatural creatures with werewolves at the forefront and packs suffering from constant rogue attacks . My grandmother had promised to put a protective shield around the pack territory to minimise the rogue attacks and in exchange the alpha allowed us to stay and the protective barrier is up till this day. The alpha unfortunately passed away during the war but the pack still kept us around to honour their side of the deal while my grandmother kept the protective barrier up. The alpha’s son was now old enough to take over the alpha position from his father’s beta but that was none of my business . Luckily for me the Trainers did not comment on my tardiness and the eyes that had been on me had subsided while I had zoned out. My grandmother is a witch and so was my mother but my father was a werewolf which makes me a hybrid. I do not know much about my father ,all I know is that he died in the war of the supernatural trying to protect Nana and I so that we could escape to safety. He died a hero . “hi…sorry to disturb but the trainers said we can go assembly and sign up now ,” I looked up to find the voice and was met with a beautiful petite girl with the shiniest blond hair I have ever seen . “ I am just going to leave you now … everyone is getting assembled and you were still seated so I just wanted to warn you before the trainers start shouting,” I watched as she pulled a strand of her shiny blond hair behind her ear before awkwardly leaving . I was so preoccupied with my thoughts I failed to notice that everyone was now making their way towards the trainers and lining up into different groups. I did not know what had been said by the trainers so it is fair to say that I have no idea what is going on and where I was supposed to go so I just followed the blond and hoped for the best. “ Thanks for the heads up ,I greatly appreciate it. I am Esme by the way,” I awkwardly whispered to the pretty blond just praying that I wasn’t being as awkward as I sounded to my ears . I was more than thankful when she stretched out her hand for me to shake “You are welcome Esme ,I am Anabelle but you can call me Belle. I guess we are both taking on warrior first,” I could feel my bones and muscles ache the moment that the word warrior left belles mouth . I was busy caught up in the dread and panicking when I suddenly heard her Burst out in a fit of laughter. “I am totally messing with you girl. For a moment there I thought you were going to have a panic attack…please don’t pass out this is Intellect,” I let out a long breath of relief as I calmed my panic within me . She really got me good . I really would have passed out. How the first day of training worked was in five stages in accordance with the five categories available. The Intellect was made up of a weird IQ test followed by a personality test and series of questions on one's point of views and problem solving skills. Intellectuals go on to become doctors , business professionals and are responsible for other things related to the day to day running of the pack or pack politics with their follow up training being a college like learning . The intellect group had three trainers for all of the different groups of tests and unfortunately for me I did not need to see my results to know that I dismally failed . The IQ test on it’s own was just a load of chicken sh**t ,like seriously how was I supposed to know all of that. With me being one of two witches in the pack and my grandmother’s uneasiness around werewolves she decided to homeschool me . Nana did a very good job teaching me but we mostly focused on relevant topics ,some history and a lot of witchcraft . Spells and portions are what she knows best so that is what she taught me as well as some basic math and history. As much as she wanted me to mingle with the werewolves and grow up around them in order for my wolf to be at ease she knew that she was the only witch I was exposed to and she took it upon herself to ensure that she taught me all that she knew. Do not get me wrong I am no i***t I did manage to get a 67% average but I apparently needed to get a minimum of 85% in order to advance as an intellect. How the whole training works is that we will separate into groups of five and take the necessary tests needed by each category and if you fail one of those tests then you transfer to another category and take the tests within that category. All of the categories ran their test simultaneously in order to ensure efficiency. The other remaining tests are warrior enforcer , tracker and blood. Warrior is the most dangerous and intimidating category. The warrior category that is where you find the fighters , the people in the front line in wars or if we are under attack , combat trainers and overall kick a*s ,bad a*s wolves. I for one had been trained in self defence and had some combat training but grandma was just teaching me as much as she knew and I doubt she knew enough to take on a full blown werewolf. I didn't even want to try out for the warrior category because as much as I thought of myself as strong I knew very well that I was no match for an actual werewolf with werewolf strength and speed. I could handle my own if I had to but probably not against a warrior. I took some time to watch the combat training that the warriors were doing and that just solidified my decision to not even bother trying out. One of the sparring partners in the field could probably just snap me in half just by looking at me so I stayed away. Being a hybrid meant the best of both worlds and I was more than grateful for that but unfortunately for me I was more witch than wolf . I could barely do any magic so I sucked at even being a witch . Most werewolves have their first shift between their fourteen and sixteen birthdays but unfortunately for me that was not the case. I am approaching my eighteenth birthday but I still have not shifted and I can barely feel my wolf. My issues with my wolf completely eliminated me from the trackers parts of the training. Trackers were werewolves with extraordinary strong bonds with their wolves. The whole category was sorely dependent on one's heightened werewolf senses. The truck is responsible for finding things , people and sensing rogues. All of the five categories worked with one another and it is not uncommon for one werewolf to possess the skills and qualities needed in more than one category . In cases where werewolves were qualified for more than one category they just went with the first test they took or picked whatever they desired within the categories and that was looking like the case for Belle. Her arms went around me as she started screaming my ear off in excitement. She had just passed both her intellect and tracker training tests making her skilled in both categories. I on the other hand was just basking in her happiness and celebrating along with her even though I was yet to pass any of my tests. I was now only left with two categories…enforcer and Blood. The Enforcers department was responsible for law and order. While the warriors were in the front lines the Enforcers were the soldiers right behind them. The Enforcers training was a bit more than just fighting as it had a mixture of all the five categories whilst also remaining it’s own category. The blood category on the other hand was self explanatory…it was not about skill but about blood. The blood category was the mother load with sub categories deep within it. Blood basically dealt with the werewolf hierarchy and power dynamics. Within the category we have titles ranging from alpha ,beta ,gamma and Omega. As much as I wanted to go do the Enforcer training my curiosity got the better of me. The blood category line was pretty much empty as most people already knew where they stood and the few that chose blood were long done. Not knowing who my father was and my grandmother not saying much about him made my curiosity burn deep within my core as I slowly approached the blood category trainer . There I was standing in front of the pack beta with great anticipation. I could feel eyes on me as people watched me standing in the blood category. My grandmother had never told the pack members who my father was and when the alpha had asked her why she did not seek safety in my father’s pack she avoided the question. Till this day nana has refused to answer any questions about my father even when I asked her. I could hear my heart beating faster and faster as I slowly raised my hand palm up towards the gamma just awaiting the blood test. I will still not know who my father was after this but I will at least have a clue.Today was my chance to get one step closer to uncovering not only his identity but mine too.
