LOVE AFTER REVENGE
CHAPTER 1;The return of the ghost
The rain hit the city like it was angry.
Inside the back seat of a black car, a woman stared through the fogged window at the glowing skyline of Lagos. Her fingers tightened around the leather bag on her lap.
Liana Hart.
Or at least, that was no longer the name she was supposed to use.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” the driver asked quietly, glancing at her through the mirror.
Liana didn’t look away from the window.
“I didn’t come this far to turn back.”
The driver hesitated. “The Vale Empire isn’t what it used to be. It’s more dangerous now.”
A faint, cold smile touched her lips.
“Good,” she said softly. “So is revenge.”
The car slowed in front of a towering glass building that pierced the night sky.
VALE CORPORATION.
Her past. Her pain. Her purpose.
She stepped out into the rain without an umbrella.
Inside Vale Corporation – 10 minutes later
Security stopped her immediately.
“Access card?” the guard asked.
Liana calmly reached into her bag and handed over a file.
“I’m the new executive assistant under HR approval.”
The guard scanned it. “Name?”
She didn’t hesitate.
“Laura Benson.”
A fake name. A borrowed life.
He nodded and let her pass.
But as she walked into the building, she felt it—
Eyes.
Watching her.
Waiting.
CEO Floor
The elevator doors opened with a soft ding.
Liana stepped out—and froze.
A man stood at the far end of the hallway, speaking to two executives.
Tall. Sharp suit. Cold presence.
Even from a distance, power clung to him like smoke.
He turned slightly.
And his eyes met hers.
Time stopped.
Something flickered in his gaze—recognition? curiosity?
He dismissed the executives instantly and walked toward her.
Each step was calm. Controlled. Dangerous.
“You’re new,” he said.
His voice was low, smooth… unsettlingly calm.
Liana forced her expression neutral.
“Yes.”
He studied her face like he was trying to read a hidden language.
“What’s your name?”
For a second—just a second—she almost forgot her lie.
Then she said it.
“Laura Benson.”
Silence.
He stepped closer.
Too close.
“Strange,” he murmured.
Her heartbeat tightened. “Why?”
“Because you look like someone I used to know.”
Her grip on her folder tightened.
Impossible.
No one should know her face. Not anymore.
She lifted her chin. “I think you’re mistaken.”
A faint smirk formed on his lips.
“I’m never mistaken.”
Interrupted Moment
Before she could respond, a voice cut in sharply.
“Adrian.”
A woman in a red dress approached, holding his arm possessively.
“You’re needed in the board meeting.”
So this was him.
Adrian Vale.
The heir.
The enemy.
The man she was meant to destroy.
He didn’t take his eyes off Liana.
“I’ll deal with you later,” he said quietly.
Not a threat.
A promise.
Then he turned and left with the woman.
After He Left
Liana let out a slow breath she didn’t know she was holding.
Her phone vibrated in her pocket.
A message from an unknown number.
“You finally entered the lion’s den.”
Her eyes narrowed instantly.
Another message followed.
“But be careful, Liana… not everything about the Vale family is what you were told.”
Her fingers froze.
Cold spread through her chest.
She quickly looked around.
No one seemed to be watching her.
And yet…
She felt it again.
Eyes.
This time, not from outside.
From inside the building.
Watching her every move.
That night, in a dark office high above the city, Adrian Vale stood by the window, holding a file.
Inside it—
A photo.
A girl from years ago.
Liana Hart.
His expression darkened slowly.
“She’s back…” he whispered.
Behind him, his assistant spoke carefully.
“Should we remove her?”
Adrian didn’t answer immediately.
Instead, he stared at her photo for a long moment.
Then he said something no one expected.
“No.”
A pause.
“I want her close.”
His eyes sharpened.
“So I can find out why she came back from the dead.”
He placed the file down.
And the moment the lights flickered—
Someone was already inside the building security system.
Watching her.
Tracking her.
