THE BILLIONAIRE DAUGHTER

CHAPTER 9
“That is not what I mean.” Ryan said as Amelia turned her back on him. She was very angry, at him, and she knew that she had no right to be, because he was right, about everything, but still, it hurt her. She didn’t want to talk to him, again, or she might say something that she will regret the next day. Sure, she will apologies, and he would forgive her, but the damage would have been done.
“Good night Ryan, like you said, I have school tomorrow.” Amelia said as she faced the other side of the bed. She didn’t care for a wrapper, although she knew that the nights were chilly. She shut her eyes tightly as she waited for sleep to come.
Ryan sighed as he shook his head. His little sister had already been hot headed and this brought a lot of trouble, but he didn’t want them to fight and sleep, without resolving the issue.
The next morning, she will be moody throughout and won’t talk to him, he looked at the money on the floor, they needed the money badly, so what is wrong with her helping out a bit. His mind pondered.
“But you know that she is keeping something from you, you already have a notion, that she is getting this money through illegal means, do you want to shut your eyes and take the money blindly, what if she gets into trouble that she can’t get out of, what will you do then?” His heart said to him, as they battled for dominance within.
Ryan cursed underneath his breath as he breathed sharply. He needed to talk to Amelia.
“Come on, Amelia.” Ryan called out but there was no response.
“Amelia?” He called out again, but Amelia ignored the call, and stubbornly refused to answer.
Ryan was about to reach for her, when a knock came on their door. Who the bloody hell could it be, it is freaking after 1am. He wondered as he shoved the monies under his bed and went to the door.
“Has Amelia gotten in any kind of trouble?” He wondered and he asked.
“Who is it?” He wasn’t in the least comfortable, opening the door for a common stranger. It could be a thief or worse, the police. He loved Amelia, but she gives him hypertension sometimes…. scratch that, all the time.
“Oh, good. Ryan boy, you are back, it is me, your neighbor.” A voice said as Ryan opened the door. He saw that it was the old lady with seven cats, who lived two doors away from him.
“What is the problem miss, Potts? Your fuse is blown?” He asked as she shook her head.
“I am not sure, but I think so, do you think that you could have a look, my plumbing is faulty, also, I have been hearing this weird noises in the fuse box too.” She said sweetly.
Ryan wanted to say no, but he hesitated. It was late, but she lived alone, what could go wrong, if he just lends her a helping hand. He shrugged and said.
“Okay, let’s go. He said locking his door and carrying the key. He would deal with Amelia later.
“Thank you, so much, you are a lifesaver.” She said as she hugged him, before leading the way to her door.
She opened the door, and entered, the room, switching on a torchlight. The whole place was pitch black. Ryan could hear the meowing of cats, but couldn’t see any of them.
“Stay there, dear kittens, Ryan is here to help, we will soon have light.” Mrs. Potts called out as the cats meowed in response. Sometimes Ryan wondered if she could actually speak to cats, because he has, on several occasions, caught her speaking intimately to her cats.
Using the aid of her torch, he went to the fuse box and saw that the wires had disentangled, and pulled off. That explains the black out. Luckily it wasn’t that stressful or time taking. Placing the torch in his mouth, he worked on the wires, disentangling the wires and placing them in their original position. He had a hunch that the cats were behind this.
After he was done, he closed the fuse box and went to the kitchen, under the counter. He removed the covering, as he saw what was leaking. He tightened the pipes and screw the nuts shut. The water trickled before coming to a sudden stop.
“All done, he said as he stood up and switched the lever, and the lights came on. He could see Mrs. Potts with her cats sitting on the long cushion.
“Oh heavens, you indeed are a life saver. Mrs. Potts said standing him, as she hugged him, squeezing the life out of him.
“Just trying my best, ma’am. I am happy I was able to help. Ryan said placing his hand on his head.
“If that is all, I better head back to my room.
“Wait, she said as she picked her bag.
Take this, it is 70$, it will help you, consider this my payment. She said thrusting the money in his hand.
“Ma’am, there is no need for you to….
“I insist. She replied as she led him out of her room.
“Okay thank you so much, Amelia and I are grateful. He said gratefully as he smiled.
“No need to thank me, you deserve it and more, let me not keep you up, good night. She said as she closed the door.
Ryan went back to their room, as he put in the key and turned the door. He entered slowly as he could hear the steady breathing of Amelia, now turned facing him. She was fast asleep; he could see the tears that had dried on her face.
Sighing, he locked the door behind him, and walked to her bed to clean the tears, when his eyes came across something. It was a stain, on her dress, at the arm side. Frowning, he lifted it up, as he came face to face with a freshly sown wound.
