3. Happy birthday Princess

Damon's POV. It wasn't until I woke up this morning smelling the most delicious smell ever. It was the scent of vanilla and snow like it was Christmas morning. I shot out of my bed, my wolf fighting with me knowing what we both knew. I jumped up and left the mansion needing to get out. Everleigh didn’t want this and I wasn't going to force her into it. I got my things packed and sent to the jet ahead of me, and then I got in the car and left. EverLeighs POV I woke up looking at the clock that read *June 6th, 9:30 am* my birthday and graduation. Something was a bit off as I got ready, I kept smelling a musky sandalwood and cedar smell. I shook it off and put on my graduation dress. It's blue, and short and stops just below my ass. I put my hair into two messy braids and put on my silver vans. I grabbed my black cap and gown and walked downstairs to see mine and Damon's parents. “Look at our girl, ” my dad smiled. “She's so darling, ” Damon's mom smiled at me. “Where's King Damon?” I ask looking around and not seeing him. “He had a few things to do as King, ” his father says and I just nod. I barely knew him but his company the other day was kind of fun. That was until he ignored me for two days, I'm sure it had something to do with him telling me about Julie. “Alright everyone out the door, ” my mother pushed us. “So king Tyrell you are coming to my graduation?” I ask as we walk out the door. “Oh Darling it’s just Tyrell as Damon is now our king,” he smiles. “ Right, I’m sorry,” I smiled. “No need to apologize princess,” he smiles as we walk up to the black SUV we were taking to graduation. “Tyrell, why is it that you and King Damon address me as Princess?” I ask sliding into the back seat with my mom and Tryells wife. “Well why is it that you address Damon as King?” He asks. “Law of respect,” I said as he began to drive. He looked at me through the rear view mirror. “Okay well you are a princess by blood and out of respect we address you as Princess unless given permission to only address you as EverLeigh,” he smiles. “Oh well then you have my permission to address me as EverLeigh,” I smiled. “Well then Miss EverLeigh are you excited?” He asks. “I'm a bit nervous about my valedictorian speech,” I smiled. “Oh honey you’ll be great,” my mom smiled and we had pulled up to the football stadium that the graduation was at. As I walked towards the entrance I smelled it again, the sandalwood and cedar. I looked around to see where it was coming from but no one caught my eye. “Everything alright?” My dad asks. “You don’t smell it?” I asked. “Smell what honey?” My mom asks. “The sandalwood and cedar,” I asked looking at them confused. “Well it’s your 18th your senses are stronger of course we smell it we smell lots of things,” my dad says and I saw Tyrell and His wife smiling at each other. We walked into the stadium and I was pulled away by the principal who was walking me to the field to sit on the stage. He sits me down and we wait for the rest of the students to file into their seats on the fields while our parents are all in the stands. “Good morning graduates and families of graduates,” the principal said as it was starting. “Today we honor our class of 2021 as they take their next steps in life. First up we have our valedictorian, who will be attending Harvard in the fall to study pre-law, EverLeigh Tatum,” he says and I stood up walking to the podium to give my speech. I smiled at everyone and then began my speech. “There are 365 days in a year and of those we spend 180 in school. I look around at the faces I’ve spent the last four years waking up and seeing in the halls, that's 720 days, 5,760 hours, and many more seconds. But in these days and hours we studied hard, we went to parties and made friendships. Some friendships that will disappear the moment we walk this stage because all it was, was a high school friendship. Other friendships that will last forever because Jenny if you ever try to stop being my friend they would never find your body,” I laugh and everyone else laughs before I continue. “We passed tests and failed some, we won football games and lost some, we grew together 180 days out of the year for four years and some of us even longer as we went to elementary and Jr high together. We cheered each other on or didn’t, but today we watched each other start a new chapter that may or may not include everyone sitting here. Today we close one dream or as I like to call high school a nightmare, to open a new dream or as some of y’all want to say your next step is a nightmare. So congrats class of 2021 we made it through 4 years in the prison we call high school and they are releasing us on good behavior,” I smiled and then the scent hit me again. I cleared my throat and the principal came and took the podium back. He began to call out names to walk the stage and get their diplomas while I looked around to see whom the strong scent belonged to. While I could smell everyone stronger than I used to, this scent was even stronger and was driving me mad. As soon as it concluded and we threw our caps into the air I jumped off the stage skipping all the goodbyes from my classmates as I tried to follow the scent only to run into someone. “Congrats baby,” my mom said, throwing her arms around me and my dad's arms followed. “Thank you,” I smiled, hugging them. “Congrats,” Tyrell smiled and so did his wife. “We should get home and start to set up for the party,” my mom smiled and I was ushered to the black SUV where the scent disappeared. As we drove home I kept trying to remember who smelled like sandalwood and cedar. I knew the scent from somewhere but now it was so strong it was overwhelming. We pulled up to the house and I ran inside and up the stairs. I was giving my mother time to set up as I rested and thought about the smell. Was it odd that all I wanted was to smell it even more? That overwhelming smell brought me some sort of joy and dare I say pleasure. DAMON'S POV I probably shouldn’t have but I needed to watch her walk the stage, I heard her speech and I clapped with the rest and laughed. I already thought Everleigh was the most beautiful girl I had ever seen before the mate bond reacted to her turning 18. But after spending a few days getting to know her, I realized being her mate wouldn’t do me any good. Even if it was the goddesses plan, I’m so scared to hurt her that I can’t take away the one thing she works for all the time.
