Chapter 1
As she stood at the altar, she knew this was her moment to escape. The arranged marriage to Richard Snr, her father's friend, was a fate worse than death. She'd tried to flee before, but her father's men had always caught her. Not today. Today, she was disappearing for real. Her mother, powerless against Carlito's mafia rule, had been against the marriage, but her voice was silenced. As the billionaire's daughter, she was trapped in a life of luxury but devoid of freedom. This time, she was taking control. "Excuse me, Mom, I need to use the ladies," she said, handing over her flowers. She smiled sweetly, playing the part of the obedient bride-to-be. The hall was bustling with wedding preparations, but her father and Richard Snr were nowhere to be seen yet. She made her move, slipping away from the altar and into the chaos of the venue. Her plan was set in motion. Tulip, her friend, waited at the airport with a private jet, courtesy of Bruce, Tulip's boyfriend. All she had to do was reach the airport undetected and outsmart her father's men. With a deep breath, she put her plan into action. She knew the consequences of disappearing on her wedding day, especially in a contract marriage. But she was ready to take that risk. This was her chance to break free and forge her own path. As she made her way to the ladies' room, she could feel the weight of her decision settling in. She took a deep breath, smoothing out her wedding dress and trying to compose herself. She quickly changed out of her heels and into a pair of sneakers she'd hidden in her bag, then made her way to the emergency exit. She texted Tulip, "I'm on my way. See you at the jet." Tulip responded with a thumbs-up emoji and a reassuring message: "Don't worry, I've got everything covered. Bruce's pilot is waiting. Let's get you out of there!" Rihanna slipped out of the venue, her heart racing as she hailed a taxi on the street. "Airport, please," she told the driver, trying to sound calm. As they sped away from the venue, she felt a rush of freedom. She was doing it. She was really doing it. As the taxi inched along, Rihanna's anxiety grew. She glanced over at her seatmate, who was still engrossed in whatever was on the side glass. She wondered what was so fascinating, but her mind quickly snapped back to her own predicament. She needed to get to the airport, and fast. The taxi driver muttered under his breath as the traffic seemed to grind to a halt. Rihanna's seatmate still didn't react, his gaze fixed on something outside his window. Suddenly, the seatmate's eyes flicked towards the driver, and for a brief moment, Rihanna caught a glimpse of his profile. Something about his features sent a shiver down her spine. She quickly looked away, telling herself she was just being paranoid. But as the minutes ticked by, Rihanna's unease grew. She couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off about this guy. And with the traffic showing no signs of moving, she was starting to get desperate. Rihanna cursed under her breath as realization dawned – they were stuck in the wedding procession, Richard Snr's convoy making its way to the venue. The irony wasn't lost on her; they were all in a frenzy, completely unaware that the bride had vanished into thin air. A sly smirk spread across her face as she ducked down in her seat, careful not to draw attention to herself. Her thoughts drifted to her mother, Jocelyn, who would undoubtedly bear the brunt of Carlito's wrath when he discovered his daughter was gone. Rihanna's heart twisted with guilt, but she pushed the feeling aside. She'd made her choice, and now it was time to see it through. As the procession inched forward, Rihanna's anxiety spiked. She needed to get to the airport and Tulip before anyone realized she was missing. She peeked over at the other passenger, still engrossed in his own world, and wondered if she'd be lucky enough to slip away unnoticed. The radio's cheerful announcement about the upcoming nuptials was nothing more than background noise to Rihanna, her mind racing with calculations and escape routes. She was too busy plotting her next move to pay attention to the festive music and congratulatory messages. As the taxi inched forward in the wedding procession, Rihanna's thoughts were a thousand miles away, focused on getting to the airport and slipping onto the private jet that would take her to freedom. The radio's noise faded into the background, a distant hum compared to the pounding of her heart and the racing of her thoughts. She was a woman on a mission, and nothing not even the joyous celebration of her own wedding was going to stand in her way. The radio's announcement became just another irrelevant detail in her quest for escape. Rihanna's eyes snapped open, and she was disoriented for a moment. She looked around, taking in the unfamiliar surroundings. The taxi was no longer on the main road, but instead, it was winding its way down a narrow, deserted path. She sat up straight, her heart racing with alarm. "Where are we?" she demanded, her voice firm. "This isn't the way to the airport!" The driver didn't respond, his eyes fixed on the road ahead. Rihanna's seatmate, still engrossed in his own world, didn't even flinch. Rihanna's mind was racing. Had she misjudged the driver? Was this some kind of trap? She tried to stay calm, but her instincts were screaming at her to get out of the taxi and fast. The taxi driver didn't seem to hear her, or maybe he was ignoring her. Rihanna's anxiety spiked as the car continued down the narrow path. She tried again, louder this time: "Excuse me, sir! I need to get out here. Please stop the car." The driver's silence was unnerving. Rihanna glanced at her seatmate, who still hadn't reacted. She started to feel a sense of unease, wondering if she'd made a terrible mistake getting into this taxi. She reached for the door handle, but it wouldn't budge. Her heart racing, Rihanna realized she might be in more trouble than she thought. "One more move might trigger me to pull this angel" her seat partner said bringing out his gun. Rihanna's eyes widened as she stared at the gun in her seatmate's hand. Her mind racing, she tried to process what was happening. The man, who had seemed so nonchalant just moments before, now had a cold, calculating gaze. "I think you're making a mistake," Rihanna said, trying to keep her voice steady. "I just want to get out of here." The man's expression didn't change. "You're not going anywhere bride" he said assessing her attire, his voice low. "Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride." Rihanna's heart was pounding in her chest. She knew she had to think fast, or she might be in serious trouble. She saw the face and her fear escalated,it was the face of the criminal she had watched on the news earlier that morning who was said to have murdered his own family brutally and had been declared wanted by the law. Rihanna's fear turned to panic as she stared at the face of the wanted man. She felt like she'd jumped from one nightmare into another. The guy's gaze seemed to bore into her soul, and she knew she was in grave danger. He then smiled, a cold, calculating smile. "You must must be familiar with this face, he said, his voice dripping with menace. "And you're just a lucky lady who gets to keep me company for a little while." Rihanna's mind started racing faster than she could control, this was danger in the capital D.
