CHAPTER 4
KATHLEEN~
When I got home, I immediately looked at Maureen to find her already sleeping in her bedroom. I felt relieved because on my way home I was guilty that I left her tonight.
I went straight to my bathroom inside my room. Anyway a little context on the position of my bedroom is that my bedroom is on the front side overlooking our strawberry farm along with the gate.
I took a bath. And I remembered all the fear I felt earlier. From the mess that happened in the studio to Bishop King's warning. I didn't know we would get to this point. I don't know what will happen next. I didn't bully him. I would never bully anyone. But Bishop King didn't know that, and he came back with a promise of revenge for me.
But somehow I got stronger. I still have Danielle, Farrah and Lillian. I have my sister Maureen and my boyfriend, Theo.
I put on my pajamas. A pair of white silk pajamas and long sleeve button down top. I was combing my hair when I decided to check my cellphone. It was low on battery that's why I plugged it into the charger first and opened it.
The next ping came to me. When I looked, Theo had so many missed calls to me along with his friends. Suddenly my chest pounded. Theo's friends won't call me.
I immediately dialed Theo's number in just one ring, he answered.
"Baby? Are you okay?" I asked him.
There is so much noise around and screams filled the speaker that I have to put it away in my ears. "Theo!" I shouted at him through the speaker.
"Kathleen? It's not Theo. It's Corbin. Please pick up Theo and me here in Saint Mary, please." I heard the desperation in Corbin's voice.
"Why? What happened? Where's Theo?" I asked.
"I don't know what happened, suddenly we heard an explosion and when we looked it was Theo's car. Theo was okay but he disappeared from our sight for a while when we found him was he unconscious and someone beat him." Corbin's almost breathless when he finished.
Beat him? No that cannot be him. He is with me that time. Him means, Bishop King.
"Oh my god! Where are you guys?" I asked and I hurried down to my room and found my car keys.
"By the woods, near the river."
"I'm coming!"
I was leaving the house when Maureen called me. "Kath? What's going on?"
"Theo is in trouble, I need to find him."
"You can't be in trouble, Kathleen. In just two months, you have an audition at NYU for ballet and there will be scouts watching. If the school finds out that you are associated with this trouble, they will suspend you--" I can see the worried on my sister's demeanor.
I kissed my sister's forehead, reassuring her "Don't worry, I'll be fine." I immediately run outside the house.
"Kathleen!" Maureen called out to me. But Theo also needs me. I did not even look back at her. Worries fills my insides and instincts.
"Lock the doors!" Then I started to drove away.
I was on the road near what Corbin said was a river. Too bad, you can't get the car inside the woods because it's a dense part of the woods.
Darkness engulfs the place, the only lights illuminating was the moon. I turned off my car's engine and saw that it was almost three in the morning. I didn't even feel tired because of the amount of things happening today. I tried to calm myself down. But overthinking gets the best of me. All of a sudden, Theo's car will explode? Out of all the days, weeks and years suddenly Theo's car will get caught in an explosion the same day that Bishop King returned. No, it was just a coincidence. That is what I keep telling myself. Luckily, neither he nor they were inside his car when that happened. I almost vomited at the thought of what if he was in the car when it exploded? I don't want to imagine. But Corbin found Theo beaten? No. This has not something to do with Bishop King. He will not waste time for me. Being the campus star and Football team's Quarterback, many are also envious of Theo's disposition. That's it.
With my cell phone, opening the flashlight, I got out of the car to go to the river where Theo was. Later I saw the silhouette of three men standing in the river. And Theo was vomiting while laughing. When I heard Theo's laugh somehow I felt relieved. "Theo!"
He looks at me, "Fuck." He mutters. "You called her?" He snaps at Corbin.
"I don't have a choice anymore. I'm not going to walk home drunk and you look like that." Corbin told him.
Theo sighs and he looks guilty, "Babe--" He walks closer to me and I see that he is beaten.
I shakes, "Oh god--" All I can do is hug him. He is alive. At least, he is alive.
"I'm sorry." He snuggled his face on my shoulders and hugs me tightly. "--I don't want you to worry."
"Let's go home. Please."
After I drove Zach and Corbin home. Theo told me if he could spend the night at our house. He knows that his parents will ask questions and scold him because of what happened. My parents are not very strict. I already had Theo stay the night at our house before as long as we knew our limit.
I was cleaning his wounds when Maureen entered my room. Shocked. Or worried. Theo and her wasn't close and often talks.
"What happened?" She asked and looked at Theo very worried.
Theo smiled at her, but I just rolled my eyes at Theo. He finds this funny and amusing. When I almost lost him.
"Theo happened." I shrugs, as soon as the cotton with alcohol touches Theo's face he squirm in pain.
I see Maureen unable to looked at him too.
"I know you hate me but please don't hurt me." Theo chuckled.
"Shouldn't this be reported to the Sheriff's office. Clearly someone is onto you. They blew up your car and then beat you up. God knows who it is or they are." I scolded.
Maureen gasped behind me, "Explosion?"
"Baby--" he holds my legs. Then I shivered remembering it is the same place Bishop King touched me. "--you know what happens at Saint Mary will always stay at Saint Mary. I can't just report. That's the rule in that place."
"The stupid rule made by the stupid King." I told him with anger.
I see Theo analyzed me or my sudden rage about the Kings, but I just clears my throat. "Maureen you should sleep."
"Yeah. Off course--" she looked at us one last time.
"Good night, Mau." Theo greeted her.
She smiled wide, "Good night, Theodore."
Always the proper Maureen who addresses people if not by their full name with their last names.
"Looks like you and Maureen aren't sisters" Theo said while I was still cleaning his wound.
"Is that so? What makes you say that?" I pressed.
"She has white hair, you're raven. She's blue eyed, you're jet-black. She's pretty but you're exquisite." He leans closer ready to kiss me, "-She's easy to read. But you're hard to find."
Then his lips finds mine. We kissed, slow and passionate.
"Don't worry. I will have someone investigate what happened to my car privately. Okay?" He breathed as he kissed her forehead sweetly.
I nodded. "Go get some sleep."
I stood up and went to my bathroom when my phone chimed, a message from an unknown sender; "Mine."
I froze.
It is him.
Theo's beaten up and Theo's car.
It is him.
Oh f**k.
What else can a Bishop King do?
