Red Rose Meaning: Love      It was a regular Thursday afternoon. The sun was shining bright with just a cool breeze. Kayla was on her way home from work. Everything was going good for her right now. She won her case where her client was wrongfully convicted of murder. The mountain of evidence she presented in court proved the prosecution wrong. She already knew that the jury was on her side from the moment she stated her argument. She made it home in a flash. As she started heading up to her apartment, she greeted the security guard. She walked to the elevator and pressed the button, patiently waiting. Darren, a man who lived in the same building as her stood next to her and began to admire her. Her beautiful brown skin, almond eyes, curvy figure, naturally curly hair. He was mesmerized. Kayla caught Darren staring and turned away and blushed. "Can I help you?" She said, with a smile plastered on her face. Darren then snapped out of it. "You look beautiful today." She blushed and looked down. It was no doubt that Darren was a handsome man but she wasn't ready to jump into another relationship. Just 5 months ago, she caught her ex-fiance in bed with another man. That broke her heart and made her shut down on love, never giving it another chance. "Thank you." The elevator eventually opened and they stepped aside, letting the people get off first. Kayla walked in the elevator with Darren behind her. They both reached for the number 6. They looked at each and laughed. Kayla then pressed the button. On the way up, it was silent. A comfortable silence. The doors opened and before they parted ways, Darren grabbed Kayla's arm. She turned around and looked at his arm then at him. "Yes?" "Are you doing anything Saturday?" Darren hoped she wasn't doing anything. He just want one date with her. She constantly turned him down but he's too persistent. He'll do anything to make her his. "Yes, I'll be binge watching 'Blacklist' on Netflix." "So you're doing nothing. I wondering if you'll come with me to the carnival. Tomorrow is the last day they'll be there and I'll love for you to come with me." "Maybe some other time." She smiled lightly. Darren let go of his arm, feeling defeated and walking to his apartment. Kayla began to think about it. Do I really want to be in my house watching Netflix all day bored or just go out and enjoy myself? Darren was a good looking guy with a big heart. He seemed caring and sweet. Maybe this little friendly get together won't hurt. She turned around and saw Darren putting his key in his door. "Hey Darren?" He turned and looked at her. She smiled. "I'll see you Saturday." He went into her apartment and slid down on the door, silently cheering. Maybe this can be the beginning of something wonderful.
