"And this is where we fax papers and all the tea gets spilled." Teresa said, hoping to make the new worker, Kaila laughed. She just gave a small smile and continued to listen to what she had to say.
"And this is your cubicle. Any questions?"
"No, thanks." Kaila sat her briefcase down and took a deep sigh. She never expected to end up here.
Her husband at the time persuaded her to be a stay at home wife, not knowing that he was out with a woman every night. When he got fired, he drank all his money away and took turn for the worst. He became abuse both physically and mentally. But enough was enough. Kaila finally had the courage to file for divorce. After that happened, everything came to the light. All the infidelity, all the lies, and his secret life where he was engaged and had 2 kids when he told her he didn't want any children.
And here Kaila was, 32 years old, divorcee, starting over once again. Thankfully, she had a business degree and something to lean back on. This may not be the highest paying job but she was willing to make ends meet.
5 hours later and it was her lunchtime. She gathered her belongings and started to head out for lunch. She took a quick glance to her left and practically froze. Just a bit ahead of her, there was this handsome man. Caramel skin color, waves in his head, light freckles, almond shaped eyes, cute little and pink plump lips. He wore prescribed glasses that hung slightly off his nose. When he smiled, his little dimples became evident. This man was a God.
"Hello, miss?" the man said, letting his baritone voice fill Kaila's ears.
"I'm sorry. What was that?" Kaila lightly blushed, embarrassed that this handsome stranger caught her staring.
"You're new here?"
"Yes. I just started working here. Kaila." she held her hand out and the stranger grabbed it, shaking it firmly.
"Malik. Where you going for lunch?" he asked as they began walking to the elevator.
"To the little diner down the street. Their burgers are to die for."
"Ok. I'll hold you up to that." The elevator opened and they stood to the side, letting the people get out before they went in. Malik let Kaila walk in first before he stepped in himself. He pressed the floor level and as the doors began to close, Kaila noticed Teresa giving her this ice cold glare, making her a bit uncomfortable.
As they came back, they clocked in and began to work, Teresa practically stormed over to Kaila's cubicle and cleared her throat loudly, causing Kaila to look up at her.
"Stay away from Malik. He's mines. I don't need your sneaky ass next to him. Understood?"
"Sure." Kaila nonchalantly responded and continued working. She wasn't looking for anybody right now. If a simple lunch get together was going to make coworkers angry, then maybe it's best for her to stay by herself.
