Episode 1: The Contract
The rain came without warning.
Amara stood under the thin shed in front of the Grand Royale Hotel, clutching her worn handbag against her chest. Her clothes were already damp, her hair clinging to her cheeks. She inhaled shakily as she checked her phone.
₦480 left in her account.
Her mother’s hospital bill was due in two days.
And she still hadn’t gotten a job.
“Please let today go well,” she whispered to herself.
She was here for a cleaning job interview nothing special, nothing big but it was at least something. She took a deep breath and walked into the dazzling lobby.
The marble floors sparkled. The scent of expensive perfume lingered in the air. Everything screamed wealth, wealth she didn’t have and probably would never have.
Her eyes were fixed on the receptionist’s desk, so she didn’t see the man coming out of the elevator until BAM.
Her elbow slammed into him. Her file fell. Her bag fell. And worst of all Her paper cup of cheap coffee splashed all over his crisp, expensive, definitely-not-affordable suit.
“Oh my God! I’m so, so sorry!” Amara gasped, scrambling to pick up her things. “I didn’t see you. I’m really…“It’s fine.”
His voice was deep. Cold. Controlled.
She looked up and froze.
The man towering over her looked like he had stepped out of a billionaire magazine cover. Tall, sharp jawline, hair slicked back, eyes a piercing grey that felt like ice on her skin.
He looked annoyed, but strangely… calm.
“I’ll pay for the cleaning,” she blurted. “Or or I can wash it myself. I’m really sorry..”
“That won’t be necessary,” he said simply, already walking away.
She watched him enter a sleek black car and disappear into the storm outside.
Great.
Now she would walk into her interview looking like the clumsiest woman alive.
Three hours later, she was back home in her tiny room when her phone rang.
A number she didn’t know.
“Hello?” she answered cautiously.
“Miss Amara Lawson?” a female voice asked.
“Yes?”
“You are requested to appear at Kane Corporation Headquarters tomorrow morning at 9 AM. You will meet with Mr. Adrian Kane.”
Amara blinked. Hard.
“Mr. who?”
“Mr. Adrian Kane.”
Her heart dropped.
The man she spilled coffee on?
Before she could ask questions, the call ended.
The next morning, she found herself inside the tallest building she’d ever seen. Everything was black glass, gold accents, and silent halls.
An assistant led her into a large office.
And there he was.
Adrian Kane.
The billionaire.
The man she embarrassed herself in front of yesterday.
He didn’t look up immediately. He finished signing a document, placed his pen down, then finally lifted his eyes to her.
“You’re here,” he said. “Good.”
Amara swallowed. “Why… did you call me?”
Adrian leaned back in his chair, studying her like she was a puzzle piece he needed to fit into his empire.
“I need something from you,” he said. “And you need money.”
Her breath caught.
“Money?” she whispered.
“I did a background check,” he continued calmly. “Your mother is in the hospital. You are behind on bills. You’ve applied for twenty-three jobs in the last month. None successful.”
Her knees almost gave out.
“How…how did you…”
“I don’t waste time, Miss Lawson.”
He stood up, walked toward her, and extended a small folder.
She hesitantly opened it.
And froze.
A Marriage Contract.
“I need a wife for six months,” Adrian said.
“Sign that contract, and I will pay for your mother’s full treatment, plus five million naira in cash.”
Amara stared at him, stunned speechless.
His next words sent a chill down her spine.
“This is not a request,” he said quietly.
“It’s an offer you cannot afford to refuse.”
Her heart pounded as she looked from the contract… to the cold billionaire now watching her like she already belonged to him.
And for the first time in her life, Amara realized
Her fate had just changed forever.
