Chapter 7: Tantrums and Worry

Miguel woke up to the sound of laughter coming from the kitchen. He looked around to see that he was still in his study. He closed the file in front of him and stood up,walking to his room.

He got into his bathroom, freshened up and walked down the stairs after dressing up for work.

He could see Rosa and Mikayla laughing at a joke that Rosa had said. Mikayla threw her head back and he could feel a tightness in his chest. Last night after he had told her that he was going to come to her room,he had waited till she was asleep before going to check on her.

He couldn't be with her,not because he didn't fancy her but because he could be in something with someone.

Besides,their marriage was for show,she had said so herself

“Erm erm " he coughed,as soon as he got to the kitchen

“Good morning young master" Rosa said

“Good morning Rosa" Miguel answered. He looked at Mikayla and said “Good morning"

She ignored him and continued to sip her coffee,staring at her phone.

“Breakfast?" Rosa asked

“No thank you. I'm on my way to the office " Miguel said.

He turned to look at Mikayla and said"Alex will take you where you need to go. If you need anything,just call me”

" No thanks, I'll be at my store. I can also drive myself”Mikayla said,standing up from the stool

" Thank you for breakfast”she said to Rosa and left the kitchen

“I'll be back late Rosa. I'll probably have dinner at work too”Miguel said,before walking out of the kitchen too.

Mikayla stared at her phone reading the news that a reporter had published about her and Miguel. They had defined their marriage as too quick as there had been no news of their previous relationship.

She laughed hysterically as she read the comments below the post

“They probably had been dating secretly" one said.

She read more comments and was about to drop her phone when a particular comment caught her eye

" It's probably another scandal” it had said

She clicked on the username and saw that it was one prettycamille_20.She scrolled down the account and saw that it was a private account and can only be accessed when the owner follows you back.

She leaves the page and dropped her phone,choosing not to dwell on it too much.

Her store's doorbell dinged and she looked up to see a young couple walk in.

It seemed like the lady was pregnant and her husband was holding her gently,smiling at her.

She smiled at them and said “Welcome to Ks Gems,how may we be of help to you?"

“Hi,I'm John. This is my wife Casey,you see tomorrow's our second year anniversary and I was thinking of getting her a jewelry since she insisted that she didn't want any gift" the husband said

Mikayla smiled and said” Oh, that's lovely. Well,you're in luck,we just received a set of new jewelry this morning. Might I show you a few?"

“Yes of course" John answered

“Right this way then" Mikayla said,leading the young couple to the stall where the jewelries were displayed.

“What's your style?" Mikayla asked Casey

“Something simple and chic. Not too heavy of course,because i am already heavy" Casey answered,smiling and gesturing to her heavy stomach.

“I see. This should be perfect then except you want something else of course." Mikayla said,holding up a necklace.

“I love it. Thank you" Casey said

“Would that be all then?" Mikayla asked

" Yes yes”they both said

" Alright then. Why don't you go up front so my sales attendant can ring you up?”Mikayla said,motioning to the front counter

“Of course. Thank you very much" John and Casey said

Mikayla kept arranging the stack of jewelries when she felt a gentle tap on her shoulder. She looked back to see John standing behind her.

“Oh hi John,is there a problem?" She said,smiling at him

“Not at all. I need your help with something" John answered

" Oh oh,how may I help?”she asked

" I was hoping to propose again to Casey again tomorrow and I was hoping if I could get a ring engraved” he said

" Oh of course ,what will you like to write?” Mikayla asked

" I love you now and forever” John said,smiling

"That's lovely. I'm sure she'll like it. I'll just add it to your bill then" Mikayla said,smiling

“One more thing. I would like to invite you to the party too tomorrow" John said

“Oh I don't think I'll be able to make it" Mikayla said

“I insist,it will make Casey happy. You can deliver the ring then " John persuaded

“I'll try." Mikayla said

“Thank you thank you" John said,hugging her and kissing her cheeks before holding his wife and leaving the store.

Mikayla watched as he smiled and pulled his wife closer,whispering something in her ears which makes her laugh.

It was evident that they were in love unlike her and Miguel.

Her chest tightened as she thought of him and her phone dinged almost immediately.

She goes to pick it up and sees Miguel's text

Speak of the devil ,she thought

“Let's have lunch" it says

“I'm busy" she texts back

She goes to drop her phone when she sees an incoming call and she sees that it's Miguel

“What is it?" She says,as soon as she picks the call

“Let's do lunch" he says

“I'm busy. I thought I said so before" she answers

“Doing what?"

“My job" Mikayla responded,angrily

“Why exactly are you calling me? You're disturbing,bye" she said again,hunging up

She scoffs and switches off her phone,putting it in her bag.

Miguel paced in the sitting room,removing his tie and scratching his hair. He keeps checking the time. It had been four hours since he got home and Mikayla was nowhere to be found. He had been calling her phone but it kept saying switched off.

It had taken great control to avoid calling her father to ask if she was at their house.

But knowing Mikayla,her pride wouldn't let her leave without rubbing it in his face.

So where was she?,he thought

He had left Rosa go home as soon as he got home and he had cooked because he wanted to make up for the attitude he put up last night and now she wasn't here.

He just hoped that she's okay. He tried calling her number again but it still wasn't going through.

He had never been worried about someone since his mum.

He sat on the couch and bowed his head,praying that nothing bad happened to her.

He heard the gate opened and a car driving in. He stood up to check and saw that it was her car.

He walked to the door and opened it,pulling her in a hug as soon as he saw her.

He kept hugging her tightly and kisses her forehead,thanking God that she was okay

“I can't breathe" Mikayla said

He let go of her ,still holding her arms

“Are you okay?" He asked

“Yes I am.,ran late at work plus the traffic" Mikayla answered

He dropped her hand and said”I see and what happened to your phone?"

" It's in my bag. I switched it off “she answered

"Look,I'm tired and hungry and I just want to go to bed”she continued,walking towards the kitchen

She sees that the table has been set and there were candlelights on it.

“You did this?" She asked

“ Of course not. Rosa did" he said,scoffing

“I see. And where might Rosa be then?”Mikayla asked

" I sent her home. Goodnight”he said,before proceeding to his room.

Mikayla smiled and walked up to her room,closing the door behind her.

She jumped on her bed,without removing her clothes and she dozes off.

Her eyes stirs open and she yawns lightly,checking the time. It's just 1pm and she's wondering why she was awake.

Frustrated,she walks into the bathroom to freshen up hoping that she would at least sleep better if she washed up.

She finished washing up and got into her comfy PJs,walking towards her bed when her tummy growled.

She frowned and grumbled ,too tired to go downstairs to the kitchen.

She finally musters strength and leaves her room,walking to the kitchen,half asleep.

She gets to the kitchen and sees someone in the kitchen behind the fridge.

Thinking it's an intruder,she picks up her flipflop and holds it tightly,intending to use it to smack life out of the intruder.

She approaches the fridge and raises the slipper when the intruder closes the fridge and sees her.

They both scream and she loses her balance and slips,falling.

The intruder,who turns out to be Miguel,drops his cup and pulls her close before she could fall.

He pulls her in and their lips touch.

They both freeze before Mikayla pulls away and ends up falling again.

Miguel started laughing uncontrollably and held his belly.

“ What are you even doing here?" Mikayla asked,angry that she had fallen on her butt

“Erm,I think.this is my kitchen and I'm allowed to use it”Miguel said,as soon as he stopped laughing

" I know I know. I mean,why are you here now?”Mikayla asked

" I came to get a glass of water" Miguel said

“Why are you here?" He asked

“Was hungry" Mikayla said

“There’s food in the fridge. I could microwave some for you if you want?”Miguel asked

"Yes yes. Thank you”Mikayla said

Miguel went to the fridge and brought out the food from it.

“While I'm doing this,would you like to watch a movie?”Miguel asked

“It's okay if you don't want to" he continued

“I'll watch a movie. Netflix?" Mikayla asked

“Yes yes. The password is Scooby Doo" Miguel said

“What kind of a password is Scooby Doo? What are you, five?" Mikayla said, laughing.

" Hey,don't come at me. I was 15 when I made that password and I've not seen the need to change it”Miguel said, smiling

" Fine fine. Whip up some popcorn and ice cream while you're at it”Mikayla said,hitting his butt and walking to the living room

Miguel gasped and said" You did not just do that”

" I sure did” Mikayla said,laughing

Miguel walked to the sitting room with a tray of food in one hand and popcorn and ice cream in the other.

He sees Mikayla engrossed in the movie and he drops the tray and sits next to her .

“Heyy, I'm so sorry ,I should have come to help”she says

" Oh no no, it's fine. I see that you were engrossed in your movie. What do men want? . Ha, cliche” Miguel says

“Oh well,you can never know what men want" Mikayla scoffs,taking a bite out of her food.

She looks at Miguel and exclaims “This is so good”

“Really ?”Miguel asked, expectantly

" Yes,Rosa really outdid herself" Mikayla says,taking another bite

Miguel scoffs and eats his popcorn,concentrating on the movie while stealing glances at Mikayla.

“You know you can stop stealing glances at me, right?" Mikayla says

" I know but it's better this way”Miguel says,smiling

“Is it ?" Mikayla asks,sipping her ice cream

" Oh yes it is”Miguel answers

“So what ,Adrien is sleeping with Mitchell's sister?" He asks

“What?" Mikayla asked, confused

“The movie" he says

“Oh oh ,yes yes. And he still tells Mitchell that he loves her everyday . That's bullshit,don't you think?" Mikayla says

“Yes it is" Miguel says,leaning back in the couch

This is going to be a long night,he thought.
