She was in a parking lot across from the motel, and she knew that it was in this lot that Detective Ortega would park his black, unmarked cruiser. She knew he would then cross the road and head into the motel’s office where there would be a girl waiting. The girl would be young, but of legal age; the detective was insistent on that fact.
