The camping trip
“Oma, are you ready love. Your friends are all waiting for you.” Oma’s mother, queen Tara enters her glorious chamber where Oma is standing in front of the large mirror. There is a window to her left that’s has glass door closed to the edge and curtains to keep out the sunrays. “Look mother. This dress look so common. I have never worn something of so less colours ever.” Oma says looking down at her brown leather pants and boots. Her white shirt uniquely designed by the royal designer to give the trace of extra glamour. “You look beautiful Oma. It’s a camping trip, you need comfortable clothes.” “But those clothes are suppose to look pretty. I look like our guards mother.” “Oh my dear daughter. Here, let me tie this red sash around your waist then you won’t look so dull.” Tara ties the sash around Oma and she smiles a little. “I guess this looks better. I can make it work for today but you are the designer, whatever his name is, to make better sports clothes from now on.” Oma said and walked out of the room. From inside the, Tara called for the guard and one entered wearing a clean vest and heavy boots over white pants. She ordered him to carry the duffle bag on the chair and he complied and followed behind her. Down in the exit hall, Oma’s friends sat giggling and chatting. “Are we ready to go or must I sit and call for dinner to be served?” Oma suggested with a hint of mockery. “You look beautiful Oma.” One of the girls said. She was as tall as Oma with specs and chained hoodie around her shoulders. Gaan had black hair unlike Oma’s bright red ones. “Please don’t try to flatter me, Gaan. I know I look dull. Can we go now.” “Gaan is not wrong Oma. You look good just not princess which is good too. This is your first trip without any royal guards tailing you. You need to blend in and experience the taste of commoners.” Said Isk, Oma’s best friend who stood six feet tall and had mesmerizing green eyes. “If I wanted to blend with commoners, I would take birth to a commoner dear Isk. But you have convinced me and I am going on this trip with you all. So no backing now.” Said Oma. “This trip will be good for you Oma. Next one would be after your marriage with prince of Salle-brown. Your father is already searching for the best decorators. In fact he is currently talking to the best musicians of Fiza.” Tara said. “Tell father to not worry too much. I want him alive for the wedding.” Oma said and with her all five friends present in the hall, left the palace. The route was easy. The royal cart driven by the massive bear would leave them at the edge of the city and from there they were to make their own journey down the village and jungle. A small two days trip for six friends. When they climbed off the cart near some small village, the cart driver wished Oma a safe trip and the bear bowed to her. There wasn’ anyone to noticed them at middle of noon so they calmly passed the several lanes to the beginning of jungle. Gaan had the map and everything written in her journal. She was leading the group alongside Val Drea and Pai were together in the middle and Oma and Isk were together at end. “I am surprised Oma. You agreed to marry a stranger. What’s his name?” “Hans. His name is Hans and he is not a stranger. I met him last year at wedding of princess Aira and prince Kake.” “So you met him once and now you are marrying her?” “Yes Isk. He is a charming young man. His mother and father offered the married and I said yes.” “You are not like other royal children Oma. You have aim. I remember you wanted to become a professional photographer.” “I still do but I will do it after marriage. Father won’t let me work among commoners.” “The way you talk about commoners in front of your parents, it seems like you dislike us common people.” Isk said with a smile and Oma punched his arm. “Shut up Isk. I just need them to believe I am up for taking royal responsibilities or else they will keep giving me lecture on how grateful I should be of the royal blood.” “So you are marrying an innocent prince so your parents don’t lecture you.” “I don’t want to say it but you are right. Hans is a cover so I can get away from my family and start my life. Once a while I will pretend to be queen to satisfy our old folks but me and Hans have agreed. We will stay far from the royal palace. He has a brother and a sister, they will take care of the royal dignity of Salle-brown after Raya and Bane are gone.” “Wow Oma. You are already planning the death of your in-laws.” Oma gave Isk another punch as they both fell into the fit of laughter. After two hours of walking amidst lush green nature, they set up camp beside a sparkling lake. The evening air was fresh and the sun was going down behind the mountain of Fiza. “Such a beautiful view.” Said Val as he finished up washing his face near lake and came to stand beside others. “We need your vote Val. Gaan, Drea and I think Oma should go and get us dry wood from deep forest. Oma herself and Pai say someone else should do it.” Isk said. “I just think Oma is not built for cutting and carrying woods. She is literally the princess.” Said Pai. “But if I say she should go, it will just end into a tie.” “If it’s a tie, I will go Val but be careful while choosing.” “I am your friend Oma, not your guard. Isay Oma go get us small dry woods. It's your first trip without your bodyguard and last as a single woman. You are 23 Oma, you got to do this.” “Okay I will go but if I die it’s on you Isk.” Oma said with a smirk and took the axe and rope and entered the deep side of the jungle. After a few minutes she stopped hearing the voice of her friends and the bravery she had left with started to disappear. “What did I put myself into? How do I even find dry woods.” She looked at her compass and moved further north.” Now it was getting darker and darker every second. She knew no one would come for her help now even if she screamed. It was dead silence. At last she saw a bare tree with hardly any leaves by the cave. She wondered who lived there or if it was just abandoned like this jungle. She knew vicious animals lived here but according to Gaan, they were nowhere near that core of jungle. She approached the tree and knew it won’t be too hard to cut it down. It seemed like it was already dying. “Okay tree I need so we can get warmth and cooked food tonight.” Oma said to herself and hit the nearest branch with the axe. The dry leaves crackled beneath her feet and she kept hitting until a few fell to ground. “Not bad Oma. You aren’t so bad at this general job. I can actually survive a normal life.” Suddenly she was startled by a loud howl coming from nearby. It was a pack of wolves and they were on hunt. The howl grew closer and closer and she no longer remembered to breath. And then she spots the bright glowing eyes in the wood. It barked at her and she backed up. With another sprint it was a hundred meter away from her. She left the axe and rope there beside broken branches and ran in the opposite direction. “No, no, no. Help.” Oma screamed as she felt the wolf steps pace up. Her heart was out of capacity to pump up blood and she felt her lungs collapsing. “Help!” She screamed with all that was left of her capacity and tripped over nothing and fell to the ground that was extremely sloppy from the next step. As she attempted to stand up, the gravity took over and she rolled down the hill covered with dirty leaves. Somewhere in middle of the roller ride, she lost consciousness and heard a little murmur of “Can you hear me?” But she couldn’t respond.
