Chapter 1: The First Meeting
Yukio's POV While walking in the middle of the night with her friend, Pheonix, Yukio heard the nearby bushes ruffle. "It's just the wind or a small animal", Pheonix comforts her. Since young, Yukio has lived by herself. When she was 5, her parents had left for some official work but have never returned since. She herself doesn't know if they are still alive or not. Since then, Pheonix's parents have been taking care of her as their own child, just that she lives in her own house to not make them feel uncomfortable. Yukio had always feared the dark. It all started when her childhood friend was killed in front of her in the middle of the night. She had dark brown hair but two streaks in front of her hair were white and she had them since young. She had dark blue eyes and a crescent under her left eye which she referred to as a birth mark. However, she was made fun of it in school so she hid it with makeup. Today Pheonix had promised to show her the starry night sky at his favorite place and to show her that the night is as peaceful as the daytime. She kept on telling herself that it was just the wind and didn't let her brain think any other thing. After a bit more walking, they finally reached the spot. Yukio had never imagined the night sky to be this beautiful. The stars are shining bright with no noise or light pollution from the city. Her house was located a bit far from the city, but still the noise from the city affected this small town. After spending about an hour watching the stars, Pheonix thought it was time to head back. On their way back, Yukio again heard the bushes ruffle. She looked at Pheonix, who didn't notice them ruffling, so Yukio thought it was just her imagination. After walking a bit more, she again heard the bushes but this time a black dog-like figure leaped and had landed right in front of both of them. It was a wolf with jet black fur, eyes as red as blood and multiple scars on its body, the most prominent one being on its left eye which looked as if another wolf had scratched it. Not knowing what to do, Pheonix threw a stick at it which had infuriated it even more. However, the wolf didn't go after Pheonix, rather it went after Yukio. Running as fast as she could, Yukio ran to save her life. After running for a long time, Yukio met a dead end. With the wall standing tall behind her, Yukio saw the wolf approach her. Finding anyway to distract the wolf, she found herself useless. As soon as the wolf leaped onto her, another wolf appeared from behind her and pushed away the other wolf. This wolf was different from the black one. It had pure white fur which shinned in the moonlight, and it had blue eyes and seemed like something out of a storybook. After successfully stopping the black wolf, the white one signalled Yukio to go back. When both Yukio and Pheonix reached home, they told Pheonix's parents about the incident that happened in the forest. After hearing the story, Pheonix's parents got worried and told both of them not to wander late at night in the forest. This confused them and they planned to find out more about the wolves living in the mountains. Phelon's POV "Why the heck did you attack that girl?" Phelon, the white wolf shouted. "You wont understand" replied Hugo, the black wolf. This had infuriated Phelon even more. "We are not supposed to interfere with the human world, let them do whatever they are doing. Why does it even involve you?" "That girl is just... different." Hugo said. "Oh, how come?" Phelon said scarcastically. "Like her scent, she doesn't smell like those other humans." Hugo replied. Thinking his brother had gone mad, Phelon left frustrated. "Whatever. And if I saw you interfering with the human world, I would make sure you wouldn't be able to get out anymore." However, those words of Hugo had caused Phelon to think about it the rest of the night. "The sense of smell of wolves is quite strong so Hugo wouldn't be mistaken. And even if Hugo is right, what did that girl do to him that he wanted to kill her so desperately?" Phelon said to himself. From that day onward, Phelon had promised to protect that girl, whoever she was, from Hugo and find more about Hugo's obsession with her. Yukio's POV After that conversation with Pheonix's parents, Yukio and Pheonix planned to go to the library in their town to find out about why they stopped them. Wolves in these areas haven't been seen for more than a decade and them suddenly appearing was unusual. For the next few days, both of them spent most of their time in the library, scanning every book they could find on wolves and wild animals. After about a month, they both planned to give up and just consider that those wolves were hiding and had come out now. After reading another book and being unsuccessful, Yukio gave up and had planned to head back. As soon as she put the book back in its place, she heard Pheonix shouting "I found it!" By looking at the book, it seemed as if no one had opened it in many years. The book described all about the wolves, from where they came from to their powers and authority. However, this book didn't describe wolves as just animals, rather described them as some mythical creatures. The more they read, the more they got confused. The book, even telling the lifestyle of the wolves, seemed incomplete. It didn't tell them the basic information about them. After a bit more searching, they found the basic book. "It looks like someone doesn't want us to know about these books." Pheonix said, as all the books related to wolves being mythical creatures were hidden or crucial pages of the book being torn. As they read through the book they found some weird but shocking stuff about the wolves, like how you can identify a normal wolf from a mythical one. As they read more about the books, the librarian found them and kicked them out for reading such books. "There is surely something wrong with these books and the wolves. Why is it kept so hidden and no one says anything about it?" Yukio said. "Now that we have nothing else, let's drop this research." "Who said we have nothing?" Pheonix said, pulling out both of the books from his bag. As they started the research again, they found a shocking truth about the wolves and their world.
