CHAPTER ONE:
Monday, February 4
*Agnes POV
"What would you like, sir?" I said.
The young man in the face cap seems completely unaware of his surroundings, he stood there like a robot, staring blankly into space
"Sir?" I called again waving a hand slightly in front of him.
"Oh... sorry" He said, blinking as though he had just returned to reality.
Finally, I muttered under my breath.
"What would you like, sir?" I repeated.
"A slice of vanilla cake and a yoghurt," He replied.
"Card or cash?"
"Card."
He handed me his card, and I processed the payment before returning it to him along with his order.
Truth be told, he was undeniably handsome-definitely my type .
Tall, with a caramel complexion and sharp features, he looked like the kind of man I could easily fall in love with.
In my imagination, I could already picture us getting married and raising three beautiful children together.
The thought made me smile.
But there was something strange about him.
Beneath his handsome appearance was a dark, unsettling aura.
He looked lonely... like someone who had never truly experienced love.
More than anything, he looked afraid.
The sound of my alarm jolted me awake.
"Oh my God... it was just a dream!" I exclaimed.
That was the restaurant where I had first met my fiance.
How time flies.
But why was I dreaming about something that happened years ago?
Shaking the thought away, I climbed out of bed and headed to the bathroom. After brushing my teeth and taking a shower, I got dressed for work.
While making toast for breakfast, I couldn't help thinking about everything I had gone through to become an auditor at Reaktor &Co. Limited.
I was proud of myself.
My eyes drifted to my phone.
Strangely, Albert still hadn't called me.
I wonder what's going on.
Just then, my phone rang.I answered immediately.
"Hello?""Am I speaking with Miss Agnes Adetunde?" a male voice said.
"Yes, this is she.""My name is officer John. I'm calling from the federal police station."
"The police station?" I interrupted, my heart skipping a beat .
"Did I do something wrong?"
"No, ma'am," he replied calmly.
"However, your presence is required at the Federal Police Station immediately. If you fail to appear, we will be forced to bring you in with a warrant."
Before I could ask another question, the call ended.
I stared at my phone in confusion.
Why would the police want to see me?
What on earth is going on?
