Leanna rounded the window down as her dad's car pulled up outside their Grandma's house, "Not much have changed." she said looking at the front of the house, both girls got out of the car and grabbed their things from the boot, as they said their goodbyes to their dad Sue opened the front door and smiled at them.
"Grandma Sue!" Rianna shouted as she ran towards her for a hug, Leanna turned round to look at her Grandma from her front door but a figure in the shadows next to the house caught her right eye, she studied the figure quickly and all she could get hold of was the glimpse of purple hair and something shiny that it was carrying before running towards her Grandma for a hug, after she got a big hug from both of her granddaughters Sue brought them in with their things and waved her son-in-law goodbye.
"Ok, you two take your things upstairs on your right, there will be two single beds ready for you to make, after you finished, cups of teas will be waiting on the living room table." Sue said to them locking her front door, "ok Grandma." they both answered together as they ran upstairs. Sue giggled to herself "Some things just never change." as she walked into the kitchen.
After the girls made up their beds and unpacked their belongings, they both came down stairs and sat on the sofa opposite Sue; Rianna spotted a tin on the table next to her tea "Ooh Yummy! Double Chocolate Chip Cookies my favourite! Can i?" she begged with puppy eyes, Sue giggled then answered "sure Rianna help yourself." Rianna reached out for the tin and took one cookie then started eating it. Lea looked around the room and spotted some photos in Sue's glass cabinet, she got up and walked towards it then looked through them Sue watched her carefully looking at them, "You ok Leanna?" she nodded her head quietly with eyes narrowed to the ground "I still miss your mother too, everyday..." "What did happen to mum, Grandma?" Leanna asked "I remember years back when dad said to us that he would explain it to us when we were old enough, but when I asked him a few months back he got upset and would shut our conversation down” she let off a huge sign before answering .."Your father still find the conversation about your mother very raw. it's not an easy thing to talk about with your father."
"But if dad is gonna keep doing that, we never gonna know."
"I'm sure he will tell you when he is ready sweetie. Just now isn't the right..." "Do you know how mum died, Grandma?" Rianna butted in before Grandma could finish. Grandma paused for minute before she answered, "Yes...But it is not my place to tell you girls, your father would be unpleased with me."
"The way dad is Grandma we are never going to know." Rianna said while in mid-eating with her cookie. "Please Grandma..." Leanna asked as she looked back at her.
At first Sue kept quiet then she finally answered, "Your father will not be happy with me, but I can't not tell you especially when your father is struggling to even bring the words together himself. The only reason why he is afraid to tell you is because we were only protecting you girls."
"Protecting us from what?" Rianna asked concerned as she pushed the tin away and listened, "We knew that if we told you two about your mother that we were worried it could happen to you as well, your father and the others insist it not to be told at first and then eventually said he would wait till you were older enough to understand." "Well we are old enough now Grandma.." Leanna said as she sat down next to Rianna.
Sue looked at the girls and could see how much they really wanted to know, she cleared her throat and then began...
"It all started two years before you were both born, your mother was 15 and your father was 17, when they found each other, they were both madly in love, but the only thing your mother couldn't bring herself to do was tell your father who she was. Isabel had a secret that only myself your grandfather and your great grandma knew. At first I was against Isabella telling your father about her and the rose jewel, but on her 16th birthday some bad people wanted the jewel from Isabel so they did everything they could getting it, your mother had no choice but to defend it, the only way she could do this was to put the jewel around her neck and close her eyes... a bright light started to shine from the jewel and all around Isabel's body, the jewel started dissolving into her chest... Isabel started expanding some kind of power in her hand, at this point, she knew she had to tell him. Your father still stayed after he knew and he and your mother decided to hide deep in the forest called Queens Closure, to stay hidden from anything or anyone that was after the jewel. After a year your mother and father decided on having a family that’s when your mother got pregnant, 8 months later after your mothers 17th birthday, you both decided to make an early appearances, despite being early when your arrived your mother had you both at home and knew that you both didn't need any treatment of any kind, you both were just perfect.
It was only 6 months of happiness your mother knew that myself and your grandfather tried what we could to stop anyone getting to you all but your grandfather unfortunately lost his life to protect me and you all, your mother was heartbroken and realised it was only matter of time till they got to her and you girls and she couldn't let any more people die because of her, one evening your mother and father spoke and once your father reluctantly agree she said her goodbyes to you all she left you all and when she found herself away from the home she sacrificed herself to stop anyone from getting hold of the jewel...."
It all went silence for a minute then Rianna broke it "What was this rose jewel? Why were people after it?" Leanna asked.
"The Rose jewel was passed down generations on mine and your mother’s side of the family, when it skipped me we all thought that it was over but when it appeared next to your mother one day that’s when we knew that it was far from over. How it was created we don't know, the reason why people were after it was because it has been told that the jewel can be used by anyone for good or for bad and the people who are after it obviously wants it for bad that’s why your mother sacrificed herself."
Rianna was confused so she asked another question "why couldn't she just take it off and get rid of it?"
"Because Rianna the jewel dissolved inside your mother and once it's in your body, it runs through your blood and it doesn't reappear."
While Rianna was listening to her Grandma Lea had a little look around with her eyes and noticed a picture of her mother with some girl next to Sue on the side table, "Grandma who is that girl in the photo with mum?" she asked pointing at the picture, Sue picked it up and gave it to her.
"That Lea is a picture of your mother with her keeper Raven." As soon as Lea looked at it she knew straight away that it was the purple haired girl she saw in the shadows next to the house from earlier. "Who is Raven? What did she do to help mum?"
"Raven was the protector of the rose jewel and your mother, she was highly trained and a sweet, caring 15-year-old girl but she was’s also a very independent young thing, it took a long time for Raven to adjust to your mother and when she did they were very close to each other."
"What happened to her?" Rianna asked very intrigued,
"When your mother was attacked one night for the jewel Raven stepped in and told her to go and that she would follow, but somehow the person that she was against knew her weakness and killed her, but it's been said that she comes back but no one has figured out how, Raven says that she was born to protect the jewel and would died protecting it as well." Lea studied the photo of Raven as she questioned,
"Would there be any reason for her to come back now?"
"No, not really, not unless the jewel is back, in which one of your girls would of had have the jewel on you. do one of you have the jewel?.." Grandma voiced sounded a little concerned
"oh no, no Grandma we don't have the jewel.." Rianna replied quickly.
Sue looked at the time and was shocked, "oh my 5 o'clock already I should be starting dinner." she stood up and went in the kitchen to start dinner for everyone
"Lea you ok? Is something bothering you?" Rianna asked concerned
"No I'm fine why?"
"Well you haven't stopped looking at the picture since Grandma gave it to you."
"Really I’m fine." Leanna quickly put the photo back and tried to move it to the back of her mind, for now.
After dinner and some TV with Grandma the girls went to bed thinking about what Sue been saying until they fell asleep.
"Rianna...Riaa."
"Mum? Where are you?"
"Don't worry dear you will see me soon, it's here."
"What's here?"
"It has landed on earth and is waiting for you..."
"What has?"
“You will know Rianna, you will know when you see it…"The Rose jewel Rianna..... The Rose Jewel....."
Rianna suddenly opened her eyes and pushed herself up, she brought her hand to her cheek and noticed that she's been crying again, she looked to her left and Leanna was still asleep, instead of waking her up, Rianna decided to lay back down and stare at the ceiling for abit before getting herself to drift off back to sleep.
