Chapter 21

3200 Words

Chapter Twenty-One Dawn eased herself back on her sofa and took a sip of her brandy. The fiery liquid slid its way down her throat, warming her from the inside. The journey home from the station had been a painful one. Her back had started to stiffen up the moment she slipped behind the wheel of her car, and her ankle throbbed every time she depressed the accelerator. She had considered taking a long soak to try to ease her back, but soon realised she was too tired, so she settled for a stiff drink and a couple of painkillers instead. Taking the paramedic’s advice, she managed to find an unopened bag of frozen peas underneath all the frozen dinners in her freezer, and wrapped it in a tea towel before applying it to her swollen ankle, securing it in place with the belt from her jeans.
