Chapter Twenty-Two ANCIENT EGYPT The four soldiers sat around the table, hunched over in private conversation. Around them, men in uniform caroused with abandon, grabbing hold of the serving girls as they walked between their tables and raising their glasses to past victories, for which all of them took some credit. The air was heavy with celebration. The Pharaoh had commanded four full days of celebration in honour of his son’s passing over to the afterlife. Now that his tomb was complete, the final ceremony would take place the following day, where the boy’s mortal remains would be placed in his sarcophagus for all eternity.
