Chapter 1
"It's a girl, Sire" announced the old lady with a smile on her face before lifting the infant with a blood bath body. She was expecting a joyful expression but what she saw is a glum look from the Duke. "How wonderful. A girl?" he asks flatly. The old lady who's holding the crying child held the baby tightly before giving the man a nod. She then bowed her head when she met the Duke's icy stare that sends shivers down to her spine. She silently prays not to experience something bad tonight. As the Duke of the Felbrigg Duchy. Duke Caszer Rod Felbrigg is one of the four Dukes of the Rethkin Empire. Known for being notorious and one of the greath knights who had great contributions from the Legendary War 20 years ago. Duke Caszer glance at the innocent infant with a non-chalant look before throwing his glance on his wife to check her condition. From daze to affectionate gaze, he held his wife's hand and caressed her head softly. In cold sweat ands and paled complexion, the woman tried to speak as she breaths heavily. She held tightly on the Duke's hand and looked up at him with heavy eyelids. "Klighten..." Duchess Vernia uttered weakly. "Klighten....V-Veni...T-That's her....n-name..." she said in a hoarse voice and heaves a deep breath. The Duke nods his head and caress her cheek gently. "Alright. We'll give her that name. It's wonderful, my dear. But you should rest now. Understand?" The Duchess flash a faint smile. She lifted her shaky hand and held the Duke's face. "Take...c-care...of.....h-her..." "I will. I will.." the Duke nodded his head continuously and held her hand. "R-raised....her....into...a...a.... beautiful...lady..." she added. "I-if....she wants...t-to be....a...k-knight...let her... Okay? Let her.... do....w-what....ever...s-she wants..." The Duke nodded his head again as his eyes started to welled up. "I will—No! WE will. You hear me? We will raised her perfectly, along with her brothers. Hmm?" Duke Caszer utter in a panicked voice. He can see how his wife is slowly losing her life. Slowly slipping away from him. Leaving him with no returning. "L-lovely..." Duchess Vernia wore again a faint smile as tears slipped from her heavy eyes. "I-I love you...Take care, Caszer...Love them...w-with...all...your...of....your...heart...." The Duke nodded his head spontaneously, tears flowing from his eyes and his shoulder has been shaking from crying out loud. He was about to say something to her but then he was stunned. He froze when his wife's hand fell from his cheek and her chest stopped moving. He stares at his lifeless wife. He no longer staring at her Aquamarine eyes that glows like the sky. Her pinkish and plum lips was now paled. Her smooth porcelain skin is now pale and slowly turning into a cold body. It took three seconds for the Duke to realize and react from the death of the Duchess. He called her multiple times. Gently nudging her but didn't receive an answer. He abruptly held his wife's wrist and checked her pulse. "N-No..." Duke Caszer shook his head violently. He nervously reached for the Duchess when she didn't respond. He caressed her cheeks gently like it will break anytime if touch carelessly. "No! My Love! Please! You can't leave! Please darling, open your eyes for me!" he cried out as his tears flows endlessly like the agony he's feeling right now. The old lady from the other side of the bed, watched the Duke mourn for his wife as she held the infant as she cries silently when she saw how the Duchess lose her life. Her heavy heart joined the Duke in grievance. She then glance on the new born child. "Poor child. Without the Duchess... everything will change now.. " she thought while rocking the baby. The Death of the Duchess of the Felbrigg Duchy spread quickly in a blink of an eye. Faster than the wind and spread like a plague. The whole empire shows their remorse and condolences to the Felbrigg Family. Along with the Duke, the Duchess was also known as a Great Knight and was even acknowledged by the emperor despite being a woman. In showing respect to her death, Duchess Vernia was not buried in their territory. Instead, she was buried in the capital, where the prestigious knights and emperors of the past has been buried. Since that day, the innocent young lady has been abandoned without the Duke's proper announcement of her existence. Only few maids was assigned and she was even sent to the annex of the mansion. This happened when Klighten was diagnosed to be crippled base on the legs the doctors has been observed. They don't even feel mana to the child, they don't know if it's so little, they don't feel it or, there really is nothing inside her. And a person without a mana, are tend to be magic less, resulting a dreadful fate in their life. She has been deemed as the curse of the Felbrigg Family instead of a blessing. Everyone accusing the child as the reason while such a prominent individual left this world. Growing up in a world full of scrutiny. Klighten was only raised inside the annex and with only the books her loyal maid often brought to her. Her family never visited her, but this does not leave any hatred in her heart. Maybe she's just vulnerable or maybe she's just really a saint in disguise. She didn't even got the chance to debut because her family pays no attention to her. More to say, they forgot her existence. Even the whole empire doesn't know she's existing in there. On the dark side of the Felbrigg Duchy. Only by herself and the thought of wanting to live outside her cage. "Ugh! I surrender. This story is f****d up." Araya said and throws her phone to her side. Seziah, her friend laughs at her and said, "Really? Or you're just sympathising Klighten's situation?" she teased her. "The poor, innocent character~" Araya grabbed a pillow and throw it on Seziah's face. "Aww!" Seziah whines but with a laugh. "Atleast I'm not foolish enough to stay in that infuriating house." Araya blurted out while rolling her eyes and crossing her arms over her chest. " You haven't finish the story. You're only reading a side story of the poor daughter of the Felbrigg family, duh~ she's not the main character alright?" Seziah said. " You haven't gotten to the part where the 2nd Prince met the Female lead after he got ambushed on his way to the Northern Territory. How she saved him bravely and even healed him." Seziah explained with little giggles on her voice. "Oh~ and how the 2nd male lead, which is Klighten's brother— save her even though he clearly says he doesn't want to get involve to a commoner like her. OMG~" she added that makes Araya grimace as she watched her friend daydream from her bunk bed. "Yeah~ so cliche." Araya said while shaking her head. " I don't know what you like about it." "Everything~—specially Klighten's side story because it's so heartbreaking. The author is so good." Seziah said and hugged her pillow while rolling on her bed. Araya just watched from the sidelines in disbelief. *Beeeeep* A loud beeping noise from the speaker on their ceiling catches their attention. "Calling A-007 and A-028. You are needed in the conference room, now. Please proceed immediately." Seziah and Araya exchange looks. 'That's an emergency meeting for sure." they both thought. Seziah frowns and sat up from her bed. "It's our day off, for f**k's sake!" she exclaimed with a pouty look.
