As Kaeva drove the ATV back to his cabin, Eddie was uncharacteristically quiet. The nerves of the morning were gone, and in their place was a kind of frenetic resignation. Eddie’s face was frozen in a strange little half smile, and his knuckles were white where he gripped the rollbar and the seat. Kaeva didn’t know what to say to make the situation better or easier. He wasn’t even too sure he wanted to make it gentler on Eddie. After everything Kaeva had been through since Eddie’s arrival, to find out the kid wanted to off himself…Kaeva was torn.
